I struggled. Oh how I struggled. I will always remember the way it felt like my lungs were tearing. I'll always have to remember the way the water burned my lungs. I fought my crew mates the best i could. But in the end I just wasn't able to stop them from binding my legs as tightly as they could with the rope and dragging me to the edge of the ship. I screamed and begged them not to do it, but the bastards picked me up and tossed me overboard into the deep dark unforgiving ocean all while trying to justify themselves by saying how it was bad luck to have a woman on the ship. I hit the water with a resounding splash and slowly and painfully sank into the depths all while screaming and pleading on deaf ears for them to save me. I slowly sank deeper and deeper, feeling the salty water fill my lungs as i reached towards the surface my tears becoming one with the ocean around me as my eyes drifted shut. The only things I had left was my memories of my family and friends as I felt my legs start sprouting scales and slowly becoming one long elegant tail, the feeling of the sides of my neck slowly ripping open to form gills and the rope falling away. Into murky deep. I frantically swam to the surface as quick as I could. Bursting through the surface of the water I gasped as I looked around me trying to get my bearings.

"Come Back hear! You can't Leave me here!" I screamed with a now husky voice. I looked around as I heard splashes surrounding me. Suddenly I felt a cold hand on my shoulder, turning me around.

"Calm down sister. I know you must be scared right now." stated the strange woman as I looked into her piercing blue eyes. "You are safe now. None shall harm you here."

"What's going on? What happened to me!" I responded a bit louder and harsher then I meant to.  "You will learn soon enough but for now follow me. It is not safe here." she stated as she sank back into the water pulling me along with her. I held my breath as I went back under. I held it for as long as I could and tried to break her grip as my lungs were forced to empty of any air that remained. As my mouth opened I panicked and shook util I realized that I wasn't drowning.  "You will be okay dear. You needn't be afraid now. You will always be safe in the water" stated the woman in my mind as she looked back at me and smiled calmly.

"What is going on? Who are you. Where am I? Am I dead?" I asked in my mind. I looked into her eyes as she motions towards my legs. Wait where are my legs? What is that attached to me. Suddenly the realization hit me as I took another look at her.

"I don't know how to tell you this dear, but you have become something wonderful. Something that is only spoken of in myths. You have become a mermaid." she replied as calmly as she could.

"But how? I was drowning. Why did this happen? Who is this Mother of the Sea?" I looked at my hands and fins as I felt tears forming in m eyes.

"When a woman who has been thrown overboard their ship, the Mother of the Ocean takes pity on them and gives them life instead of a most violent death." she explained as more mermaids surround us slowly,  "Mother is known by many names. She has been called the great witch of the seven seas, Neptune's greatest rival, even Leviathan. But she is known to the beings of the sea as Calypso. " she smiled, her mouthful of shark like teeth showing.

"Calypso? As in the Calypso the sea witch who carved  Davy Jones heart out of his chest and cursed him to eternal life so that he could never give it to another woman, Calypso." I stated with fear in my eyes at the mere mention of her name. The beauty of a mermaid in front of me giggled and nodded. "But why would she do something like this? What is the purpose?"

"Her reasons are bigger than most could comprehend. Isn't that right Melody." She replies as her eyes look coldly behind me causing me to whirl around and look at the mermaid behind me.

"That's right Sirena. What of it?" snaped the silver tailed mermaid.

"Oh nothing my little silverfish. But I would have thought that you would have learned your lesson the first time." Sirena smirked, her crystal blue eyes flashing silver as the water grew colder around her.

"ENOUGH ALREADY!" exclaimed a booming voice from below us as a big current of water burst from the dark depths. "ANYMORE ARGUING FROM YOU TWO AND YOU WILL BE CONFINED TO YOUR POOLS AGAIN!"

"What was that?!" I exclaimed as the two bickering mermaids froze in their spots.

"Yes Mother!" they replied in unison as the color drained from their faces until they were a pearly white.
