"Yes. Your father is brain dead." The doctor looked at Louis with a face full of pity. Louis looked back at his mother through the window, who was holding his dad's hand. "Is there any way he could survive?" Louis asked, running a hand through his feathery hair.

"Brain dead is dead. Sure, he's breathing. But that's because we put him on a ventilator. And who knows how long he'll last. I suggest doing whatever would be best for him. Honestly, I believe he has little to no chance of recovery from this. I'm so sorry, Mr. Tomlinson. We did everything we could." He answers, as a single tear runs down Louis' cheek. Louis just nods, returning to his father's bedside.

"We both know what he would want. I know it's hard, mum. But we'll get through this." Louis says, placing a hand on his mother's back. She takes a huge breath in through her nose, and exhales loudly. "I know." She says, voice hoarse from crying.

Louis got back up and informed the doctor of their decision. Harry came in through the waiting room and stood beside his boyfriend, holding his hand delicately. They watched as the two nurses removed all of the plugs, eventually pushing his bed away. Louis started to cry softly as he watched his father until he was out of sight.

Harry pulled him into a tight embrace, rubbing his back soothingly. He could see Jay in front of him and held her hand from behind Louis, giving her a sad smile. After a while, Louis pulled away, and was walking back to the car with his mother. Harry asked if he wanted a ride home, but he insisted to stay with his mom, which made sense to him.

It's amazing how quickly someone's life can change.
