I got that nightmare. Again. I looked around the room carefully, still in shock. It's like a horror movie, only it keeps repeating the same scene again and again. I was so thirsty. I hadn't had food or water in two days.
"Not now. Later. It's too early." I heard a voice say. A familiar voice. I do recognize it. Raffin.
"It doesn't matter. She can't do anything about it. Anything." The other voice sounded like Max.
I was sure it was Max as soon as I saw him heading toward me with a furious look on his face. He stopped in front of my cell but this time didn't come in.
"Could I get some water? Please." I begged. He didn't respond to me at first.
"I don't think so," he replied, still considering. "You don't need water and even if you did..." He smirked at me and then gestured Raffin to leave. "Well...now to satisfy your curiosity, I will answer all your questions... unless, of course, my secret is not meant to be shared. Now go on," he said, entering the room and closing the door behind him.
"Okay... So why are you revealing all of this to me if it were true?" I asked matching my eye level to his.
"Knew you were bound to think about that at some point. So why am I revealing this to you? That is because your memory will be erased the day after tomorrow, 9:05 am. So it really doesn't matter." he replied, rolling his eyes. I felt a weight drop down to my stomach. My memory will be...erased? I hoped this was also another nightmare and I'd soon wake up out of it. But it felt so real. I couldn't calm down after knowing that I won't remember anyone...anything... and anything at all! Max might leave again and I really did want to know the answers to my questions.
"Why did you kidnap me? What is it that you want from me?" I asked in the steadiest voice possible.
"I'd asked your Dad to find the black diary and bring it to me. My stupid brother couldn't find it," he said, rolling his eyes.
What? Did I hear Max right? It wasn't an intruder. It was my dad the other day. That is impossible... Dad was asleep. Yeah, but who is not good at acting? But how could he not have been able to find it? It was right there. Under my mattress. I suddenly remembered me coming back from a little walk. Was dad waiting for me to leave? Or was he gonna come anyway? I remembered seeing my room untidy. Very untidy. It was him...my dad. That is why there were no signs of a break-in. I guess Dad did see it but didn't give it to Max. No, he wouldn't have done that. He would have known that if he did that, I will get kidnapped. So maybe he really didn't find it. But then I just ended up on the same question I was thinking last night.
"Why did you need my diary? What is so special about it?"
"Ah. You finally thought of asking that question. But I am afraid that I can't answer that question. Just take it this way that I wouldn't be able to rule the world without that."
If Max only needed my diary to rule the world, he would have been doing that now. And maybe everything would be different. Maybe he would have already erased my memory. He surely wouldn't be here talking to me. Maybe he would have done something worse to Zianna and Dad. Whatever he needed to rule the world, he hasn't gotten all of it yet. I sighed with relief.
"I need more explanation. Anyways, it really doesn't matter, right?"
"I think I'd be leaving."
"So soon?"
"I don't feel like answering your questions right now."
Max looked at his watch, then turned to look at me and left.
I got a flashback of all I knew. My memory will be erased? I won't remember anything. It wasn't an intruder. It was my dad the other day. It was right there. Under my mattress. I remembered seeing my room untidy. Very untidy. It was him...my dad. That is why there were no signs of a break-in. He would have known that if he did that, I will get kidnapped. But he still did it. So maybe Dad really didn't find it. Whatever Max needed, he still doesn't have it.
