Why was she covered in blood? And why was she banging on his door? The girl put up her hands and walked past him to the foyer.
"Before you kick me out I want you to know that I'm not a murderer", she said. Roan was speechless. The only thing he could do was stare at her. He noticed that onder all the blood her skin was a shade of light brown. Like chocolate. Tearnan walked in."Who was at th...", he started, but quickly stopped when he saw the girl.
"uhm, Roan, did you notice this girl was covered in blood before you let her in?"
The girl turned around to face Tearnan.
"It isn't what you think. Please, just let me explain, I don't know where to go." She looked helpless. Something in her eyes seemed genuine, and Roan, for some reason, knew she was harmless. She was so dirty though. She couldn't just stay like that, she needed to clean herself up.
"Tearnan, would you stay here with her for just a moment, I'll be right back." Before Tearnan could protest Roan had already left the room.He returned moment later with two lady servants.
"Gemma, Louise, would you escorte..."
"Seafra", the girl said as if she read his mind.
"Right. Would you escorte miss Seafra to one of the bathing rooms and help her clean herself up."
The girl mumbled something under her breath that sounded like: "Miss? Do i look like a miss? " Gemma and Louise lead her up the stairs and disappeared into the long hallway."Are you crazy?", said Tearnan as he flung his arms in the air.
"She could be dangerous."
"She's not", Roan said.
"what? You don't trust healers but you can trust a blood covered lady."
Roan knew it didn't make much sense but the girl looked very scared. It made him remember the night Tearnan stood on his doorstep, hands covered in his parents blood.
"You can see in her eyes something awful happened to her. She was scared."
"And now what? You're gonna let her stay here?" Roan looked at the door. It was still open. He could feel the cold from outside, it was freezing.
"I don't know. Maybe. We'll see what her story is."
"This is crazy. You're crazy. She's probably a murderer ." Tearnan retreated back to the sitting room and Roan followed. They sat down on one of the red couches.
"Don't you remember the night you first came here? You had that same look in your eyes." Tearnan didn't respond, he fixated his look on the fire crackling in the fireplace. They sat there in silence until Gemma and Louise returned with the girl. He couldn't believe that was the same girl he saw earlier covered in blood. She looked all clean and new. Her dark curly hair, that came down to her shoulders, was still a bit wet from the bath. Now that she wasn't covered in blood and dirt, he noticed her chocolate brown skin was lighter than he remembered. She was now wearing a spare servants uniform. Her old clothes were probably being washed.
"Thank you for letting me clean up a bit ", The girl said. Her name was Seafra. What an unusual name Roan thought.
"Would you like to explain now why you came here covered in blood?", Tearnan demanded. Seafra's expression went from gratefull to serious. She sighed and sat down on the empty red couch.
"I escaped from... I don't know where exactly. There's this very bad man and he captured me years ago. How long ago exactly? I don't remember. Anyway, he says he wants my powers..." She was rambling. Wait, did she say... Powers ? Roan saw Tearnan was thinking the same thing.
"Wait, slow down",Tearnan said, "What powers?"
"I don't know. I can't control them. Strange stuff sometimes happens to me", Seafra said.
"What kind of stuff?" Roan wanted to know.
"well, sometimes when I'm really mad I start fires. I can make objects appear out of thin air. For example today, when I escaped, I killed a guard with my mind." It looked like Seafra herself didn't believe what she was saying. Roan looked at his friend. His face was hard to read, it was a mixture of pitty, sadness and disbelief.
" How come you where covered in blood then? " Roan asked.
" Well," she started," I didn't know how to do it again so I beat the 3 other guards unconscious with a stick."
He didn't know what to think. Could she possibly be a witch? Tearnan obviously thought the same thing.
" Are you a witch?" Tearnan asked.
"I think so," she answered, "I was born with these strange powers. And one of the friendlier guards told me all about how your kingdom was searching for real magic, but Lazarus wanted my powers for himself."
Lazarus was probably the man that captured her.
"You're not from here, are you?" Tearnan said .
"No, I don't remember where I'm from. My parents died when I was very young and after that I just lived on my own. Everywhere and nowhere. Until this psychopath kidnapped me." She was starting to get angry.
"I mean, what kind of person does something like that?" She stood up and I could hear her stomach growling.
"Are you hungry?" Tearnan asked.
"Well, I have traveled far to get here."
It seemed like Tearnan changed his mind about her. He stood up and lead her to the kitchen.Roan remembered he banned him from going in there. He hastily stood up and ran after them. He passed them and blocked the way to the kitchen.
" what do you think your doing?"
Tearnan looked confused.
"I was going to make her a sandwich. What, don't trust sandwiches either?"
"No, you where banned remember", Roan said.
"come on, are you still mad about that?" Roan didn't answer but instead just glared at him. Tearnan sight and made his way back to the sitting area. Roan could hear Tearnan mumbling something under his breath. He could make out 2 or 3 swear words somewhere in there. He let Seafra pass and then let himself in. Somehow there was already a sandwich on the counter. Wow, those servants of him work fast.
"what was that all about?" She asked him as she strode to the counter and took a bite of her sandwich. It was a big bite.
"Nothing of importance. " She didn't ask further questions.
"Are you two... together?" She asked.
"Oh god no. No no no, we're just friends." The thought alone made Roan want to barf. Even if he was gay, Tearnan was definitely not be his type. If only you could see the way he flirts with every girl down in the village, he knows no shame. Or boundaries. He has these annoying habits and he doesn't have any sense of commitment. Why is he even friends with this guy?
"But you live together?" Seafra asked whilst eating her sandwich.
"yeah, it's a long story." It seemed like Seafra understood Roan didn't want to get into it, so she didn't pry. Instead she asked: "What are your names?" Thats right, he didn't say.
"Roan. And the guy in the other room is Tearnan."
"Well, nice to meet you Roan." She was done eating and made her way back to the sitting room. It's weird she could act this normal when she just told that awful story. Wasn't she sad or terrified? Doesn't she feel any type of way about what happened to her? Was she really a witch? And where would she go? All these unanswered questions made him go insane. Why did he even care though? It wasn't like he knew this girl, or owed her anything. Then why did he feel so involved? Was it because she's an orphan like him? It could be, that's after all the reason why he let Tearnan live with him. How old was she anyway? She looked young. Before he could ask she said: "Thanks for the bath and the food, but I should probably get going." She looked down at the servants uniform she still had on.
"You don't mind if I keep this, do you?" He didn't mind so shook his head to acknowledge her question. He still felt bad for her. She doesn't have any parents, money or a place to stay. She couldn't stay here, could she? No, that's crazy.Seafra turned around and started making her way to the front door. She stopped when Tearnan began yelling at me: "Dude, are you crazy? We can't just let her go. I thought you were all about helping her a second ago." Tearnan stood up faced Seafra and asked: "Do you have anywhere els to go?"
"No, but I thought I'll just do what always do. Live a bit here, live a bit there. Seriously, you don't have to save me. I'll manage",she answered.
She wanted to turn around again but Tearnan took her by the shoulder.
"No, your not doing that", he said grabbing her arm and leading her up the stairs. What was he doing? Roan couldn't believe Tearnan changed his mind so quickly about her. He followed them upstairs to prevent Tearnan from doing anything stupid. She was really going to stay here, huh. And for how long?
