GAYEON STARES blankly out the window of the local bus, headphones in, listening to a random playlist on spotify. she doesn't like the loud sounds of the kids that are on the bus going to school- just like herself.
"it is only seven in the morning, did they really have to be this loud?" she doesn't like waking up this early only to be stuck in a school for hours at a time. people who annoy her, piss her off, and over all make her want to leave early surrounded in the small building with almost no way out.
gayeon has debated over several times to just skip school, although she knew her mother would get a call, and she doesn't want that conversation with her mother, but sometimes skipping school seems worth her getting her phone taken away.
she watches as the bus parks, in the usual spot. a block away from the high school. a perfect distance for her to just walk in the opposite direction, and not worry about having high anxiety.
gayeon gets off the bus and stands away to the side of the sidewalk. no one would notice her not being there, her friends are all american, but they have extended their stay in korea, and now are back where they live.
she could call in, posing as her mother, saying she's sick and isn't able to make it into school today. gayeon thinks on it a bit, but turns her foot and walks the opposite way of the school.
calling would only get her into more trouble, she realizes, her best route is just not bothering with a coverup and try and say a white lie to her parents about why she didn't show up.
she felt guilty a bit in her stomach, although she didn't know why. it's halfway though the school year, she is weeks away from finishing earlier than all her other classmates.
gayeon is the smartest in the school, probably city. she is able to remember everything, she learned it what she has is a eidetic memory-being able to remember everything she learns.
because of this, she is passing her classes with a, a+ average.
but also because of this she is known as the girl you bring your math homework to when you're not sure what to do, the one who if you beg enough and pay her 20$ she'll hopefully do your history homework for you.
hate on hated that title. she wants a new one, a badass title, a trouble maker title. something that will make people leave her alone, not bother her, because people can't understand social anxiety and shyness as a reason for her not wanting to talk to people.
she walks into a coffeeshop, looking around for a place to sit to hopefully get done with some extra school work. she quickly finds a empty table, in front of the window and plops herself in one of the stools.
she pulls out her studying materials, and grabs her wallet to grab a coffee. leaving her headphones at her spot, gayeon walks up to the counter and waits for her own turn.
she watches her spot before it's her turn to order her coffee.
"can i just have a ice black coffee?" gayeon asks the barista. he was beautiful, and anxiety couldn't help but pool in gayeon's stomach at the look at him.
"yeah, your name?" the barista- johnny as she reads his name tag, asks gayeon.
"gayeon." she answers and he nods. she looks at his arm that's writing her name down. there's a white bandage going across his arm, although it doesn't look like he's bleeding.
gayeon shakes it off and hands him 5000₩, "thank you, gayeon. your coffee will be ready in a minute." johnny says handing gayeon her change.
she smiles and takes it, making her way back to her seat.
she start to look up the things her teacher wrote down for her on a pice of paper, and starts to get ready for the assignment that she has to do.
it's just terms and definitions of a few american words. gayeon is fluent in english, but her mother has her in english 3 for her junior year, it baffled gayeon her mother refused for her to take another language for her last two years of high school.
"you okay there?" realizing she zoned out, gayeon looks up at the female voice that asked her a question.
"oh, yeah. i guess i'm not focusing well." gayeon nods with a small voice.
"skipping school?" the girl smirks, sitting down on the stool by her.
gayeon looks down at her uniform she has on still, mentally cursing at herself for still wearing it, "i guess you could say that."
"nice. i remember those days. i'm jaein." the girl holds out her hand for the younger girl to shake.
she politely shakes jaeins hand, as gayeons name is said through the cafe by a different barista. her coffee is done being made.
gayeon gets up from her seat, "gayeon." she bows slightly to the other girl and goes to grab her coffee.
she sits back down at her seat, and jaein smiles at her, "well gayeon, i think we'll be great friends."
