WE'RE GOIN DOWN LEADING LILY AROUND AND SUGAR WERE GONNA DROWN SWIMMING I KNOW YOU'VE GOT CORNFLAKES COCKY AND PULL IT. Do not deny you didn't know the words to song when you first heard it and you probably sang it the wrong way for years on end, and when your friend tried to tell you, you're wrong you argued with them for hours about it until finally one of you googled it you were caught wrong. Embarrassing I know but, no one blames you, NOONE knew the words of the song. Sugar, We're Goin Down is a very iconic 2005 emo punk anthem by Fall Out Boy, from the album 'From Under the Cork Tree' which if you say the acronym for is out loud you will not be disappointed. This hit had reached the top ten charts when released on the radio april 5th 2005 and stayed there for five consecutive weeks. it is easily recognizable as a very hard song to sing to because of Patrick's Soul voice *insert video clip of drunk history with Brendon Urie* sounding like he is slurring his words, when really he is just singing in cursive. duh. 'True fans' claim to have known the words since the beginning but I am telling you right now as a carcrashhearts or Youngblood I was entirely confused with this song. But, looking into it more I think I finally understand it enough to share with you. Now before you start reading, take into consideration that these breakdowns are theories with facts to back it up. I know the band has probably already established the meaning of the song but perhaps there is more to it? Let's go!
okay the 2005 era was an interesting year so maybe FOB wrote about it.
The price of gas was 3.18 and now it's less than 2 in most places of the united states, so is the 'we're' in the song a reference to gas prices and capitalism?... nahhhh okay back to notes..AH it's about the hurricane katrina and it's an analogy to the economy suffering..no because the emos were helping it by buying a lifetime of eyeliner and band tees...ooooh maybe it's about the release of youtube and MTV was in drastic trouble...possibly but i doubt it only because mtv and youtube weren't in a friendzoned relationship where one is gay and the other is straight...wait what?? YUP you heard it this song about a girl falling for a gay boy, before you click off this story because that couldn't possibly be, this isn't 2016 and it surely isn't 2017 era where you are allowed to identify as whatever you want and not have to worry about any harassment. However we are talking about Pete Wentz here. He coined the term 'guyliner' because sometimes a 'guy isn't always beautiful and he wants to change that' that and he has actually admitted to wishing he was gay *insert quote here fromnpr.org* "I would never come out and say I'm gay, because I'm not gay," Wentz says. "There's part of me that kind of wishes I was gay, and I think that comes from anybody constantly wishing they were in the minority and constantly wants to be fighting everybody off." you see?! Crazy stuff here fall out boy also knows that appealing to every demographic is the way to get out there and be known. * inserting another quote from same site to not sound like I am bullsh*tting anyone* "Fall Out Boy isn't alone in figuring out that appealing to gay fans or appealing to friends of gay fans or just people who don't consider themselves homophobic is a great marketing strategy,"
