🎶Our mental synchronization,
Can have but one explanation. 🎶Petra's POV
Carlos and I spent the next few hours flying around his dorm room. To say it took him a while would be an understatement, and even then he wasn't perfect. But where he lacked in skill he made up for in humor. We spent so much of the time laughing that I didn't realize how dark it had gotten.
"My roommate should be back soon." Said Carlos as we landed on the floor again. His landings were much smoother then they were before. I brushed some of the left over pixie dust on my pants. "Ok, what about it?" I said, sitting on the bed and crossing my legs. Carlos looked at a loss for words at this. He looked as if he was thinking, and when he didn't speak I waved a hand in front of his face. "Carlos? You in there?" I repeated what I said a couple of times in my head, trying to figure out if I had said something to offend him. But suddenly he spoke up again.
"Jay hates you!"Carlos POV
I'm an actual idiot.
"What?" Petra said, her voice a bit quieter then before and her accent becoming a bit stronger. I knew that lying to Petra was wrong, but I knew if Jay found her here it would be worse. Not only would I not hear the end of it for weeks, but he'd definitely tell Petra I'm a VK. "Jay despises you." I said with as much fake confidence as I could muster. Petra furrowed her eyebrows together and bit her lip. I couldn't tell if she was suspicious or if it was some kind of act. "Are you sure?" Petra said. "I've passed him in the halls and he's always seemed so nice-" "He's just trying to make you feel better." I blurted out. God, I'm an awful liar, how is she buying this?
Petra got up from the bed and walked to the other side of the room, her back facing me. I couldn't see her face, but her arms were crossed as if she was thinking. Before I knew what I was doing I had my hand on Petra's shoulder. "Look, I'm sorry." I said. Petra turned around and brushed my hand away. "Don't be, I don't care who likes me and who doesn't." She said, and from her tone I knew she was sincere. "I'm happy you told me, I hate being in the dark. You know?" Those words were what made the guilt sink in even more, but I was this far in. I couldn't back down now.
"Well. If we don't want Jay to see us, we can't be here when he gets back. Right?" Petra asked, walking to the window and beginning to unlock it. I followed her to the windowsill. "Well, I guess so-" "Good, then you can go first!" Petra pushed the window open and leaned against the wall. I looked at the window, then back at Petra and it finally hit me what she wanted to do. "Petra, we can't go flying around campus where everyone can see us!" I exclaimed. "Pixie dust is an illegal substance in Auradon, we could get in serious trouble!" Petra sighed and grabbed my hand. " We better not get caught then, huh?" She said, walking me to the windowsill. Petra had that mischievous smirk on her face just before she leaned into my ear and whispered "Now think a happy thought." Suddenly, I felt a force shove me forward and before I knew it I was falling forward towards the lawn below.
I couldn't scream, I couldn't even find my voice. I didn't know what to do at all until I saw Petra hovering by my side. The second I met her gaze I felt like air, literally. "I knew you had it in you!" Petra lightly punched my shoulder, causing me to fly backwards. Petra flew after me to help, but I held out my arms like I learned earlier and I immediately stopped. Petra stopped near me and smiled, not her usual smirk. "Impressive." She said. "Now come on, we haven't got all night."
Our final destination was the roof of the highest tower of Auradon Prep, but we took a detour and flew around a bit. We laughed even more then we did earlier, both at the thrill of flying and my below average skills. But once we arrived we started to settle down. "That was-" "Exhilarating?" Petra finished for me. "I knew you'd like it. It's nothing like anything else in the world." I looked over at Petra and smiled when I saw her looking out at the stars. They were beautiful from here, and her eyes lit up as she gazed at the view.
But I still had an itching feeling in the back of my head that wouldn't go away. Remembering Petra's confidence I didn't think twice about asking "Petra, why did you come to my window earlier in the first place?"
