Peggy Carter pursed her lips as she glanced over the newest recruits at Camp Lehigh, a military training base used by the SSR, the Strategic Scientific Reserve, during World War Two. Yet another mass of meatheads... Peggy thought to herself as she saw the men's eyes drifting over her body. But then her eyes hit something pleasantly contrasting to the large gathering of average-looking white males...
Peggy's scarlet lips curved up into a slight grin as she saw you standing on the passenger side of an army officer keep. "Officer Cooper, who's the new recruit?" She called towards the officer who'd driven you to the heart of Camp Lehigh. James Cooper led you over to Carter, and you and Peggy smiled and greeted each other warmly. "Carter, this is (Y/N)." Peggy grinned, "It's wonderful to have another girl here on the base. Those meatheads back there are intolerable company." she whispered. You shared a laugh, then set off to tour the base.
As Peggy walked gracefully in her heels, her curls bounced and shone in the bright sunshine. "(Y/N), dear, are you listening?" Carter's bright, crisp accent gently brought you back to the present. "Yes... this is the... place..." Peggy looked down and shook her head. "This, darling, is the kitchen." Your cheeks reddened to nearly the color of your lips, Victory Red, as the ladies called it. Fondling your hair when you were nervous had always been a bad habit when you were younger, and nothing had changed. Peggy pulled a pen out of her pocket. "(Y/N), dear? You don't look so good, and your poor curl is holding on by hope." You looked at her sheepishly, "Twisting the ends of my hair has always been a habit of mine when I'm nervous..." Peggy nodded, and you continued your tour to the bunkhouses.
"Here's where you'll bunk with Eleanor, one of the nurses, and I." Peggy motioned with her arm to a small, dilapidated shack. "I'll leave you to get unpacked." Peggy set off to find Eleanor. "She's so very aloof- I just don't know what I am going to do with her!" Peggy complained to her friend. Eleanor straightened her starchy nurse cap. "She's new, Peg, give her time." Peggy huffed, and gazed out the small window of the nurse tent.
