I'm Just Happy You Care

At base, I saw Ratchet there and he spoke: "Welcome back. Glad to see you are in one piece. Not that I expected anything to happen. Optimus was the one guarding you after all." A look of suspicion arose on his faceplate when he heard no response. The reason was that I had left the main room before he noticed and walked over to his berthroom to get some alone time. I climbed up the tall metal structure with some difficulty but eventually, I made it without incident. I laid down in the center and closed my eyes as I took deep breaths to calm myself down.

It didn't take long for Ratchet to find me and when he did he had a look of confusion. I knew he was there but didn't feel like talking so I stayed in the same position and feigned sleep. I could hear his pedsteps as he walked around the berth, probably wondering how I was able to climb all the way up. My suspicion was proven correct when I heard him whisper: "How did she manage to climb this height? She must be a skilled climber. I wonder what's wrong with her... She seems to be acting strange today. I should ask her when she wakes up." I suppose after he didn't see any sign that I'd be waking up soon, he decided to leave because I heard the door open and shut again. I slowly opened my eyes and saw that he had in fact left and I was surprised to feel sad rather than relieved. I stayed in Ratchet's berthroom, in the quiet I fell asleep and dreamed of what happened three years ago today:

I was playing video games with 13-year-old Jack on the sofa when June walks in after being on the phone. I could tell something was wrong when I saw her tear stained face. Before Jack could notice, I paused the game and even though he was a little mad I asked him to make me some lemonade. I had taught him earlier and I knew it would take him a long time so June and I could talk.

She sat beside me with a somber expression and put a hand on my shoulder as she started speaking softly:

"Thank you for having Jack leave the room, I wanted to talk to you alone. I need you to understand that none of this is your fault, you couldn't have known about what was going to happen." I looked at her confused urging her to continue, she sighed sadly and continued, "Your parents passed away today. They left a message with a friend, 'Don't be stupid, baby girl. Live your life to the fullest and become whatever you want. Just please don't waste your life seeking revenge. We love you sweety, live happily.'"

That was the last thing I dreamt because I was woken by a digit poking my side. I groaned and sat up and saw what looked like a blurry Optimus and Ratchet. I started to rub my eyes but felt tears running down my cheeks. I looked up at them as if to ask them why these tears were there. They looked at me with concern but I didn't want to say to explain; I didn't trust them just yet. I looked away from them and wiped the tears away and avoided eye contact with either mech. There was a silence in the air until Optimus spoke:

"I'd like to discuss your reasoning behind your earlier attitude, but now I am worried whether you are in pain." His soft, gentle concern made me start crying again as I continued to look away, ashamed for how I spoke to him earlier. 'He really does care...' I thought to myself. another silence hung but this time it was Ratchet who spoke:

"You can't just give us the silent treatment Viviana. I demand you give us answers so that we may better understand your situation." I chuckled this time, feeling happy that even Ratchet was showing he cared. Even if it was in his own Tsundere way.

(For those of you who don't know what a Tsundere is, it's a person who acts cold in the beginning but shows a warmer side as time goes by. I learned it from Miko if you were wondering.)

"What's so funny," Ratchet asked.

"Oh nothing," I said, in between chuckles as I faced the two mechs. I wiped my eyes once again and continued, "I'm just so happy to see you care enough to come and see me like this. Thank you; both of you." Optimus looked at me with a smile nodding in understanding, while Ratchet looked away. I guess he was a little embarrassed that I pointed out he cared. If Ratchet was human, I'm sure I would have seen him blush. I thought it was so cute.

"Viviana, I believe you own an apology to Arcee. As well as an explanation to all for your behavior," Optimus said with a stern yet gentle expression.  I nodded and asked him to let me down from the berth. He reached out his servo to me but instead of lowering me to the ground, he placed me on Ratchet's shoulder. I took advantage of this and gave him a kiss on the helm to show my thanks. I could have sworn I heard Optimus chuckle at Ratchet's surprised reaction as we walked out of Ratchet's berthroom and into the main part of the base.
