I embraced my grandfathers hug. He had always loved me, more than my parents I guess. But his speeches made me wrinkle my nose.
''Hey grandpa.'' I give him my best smile to which he smiles back.
He gets me a slice of cake and we spend the day laughing and smiling.
But I remember that time in his study.
'' So, have you found your prince yet? Im hoping my beautiful bride finally gets married.'' he smiles, wrinkles creased.
I didn't want to talk about it.
'' You're ugly'' the words echoed through my ears again.
Boys at my school weren't exactly ''prince material'' .
But I didn't need grandpa to throw another speech.
''Not yet.'' I smiled.
'' Well I''m sure soon enough I'll have granchildren.'' he smiled. Again.
I tried my best to laugh,'' Not now grandpa. It's still a long time for that.''
I was 14. Clearly I wasn't getting married yet.
'' Just remember, dear, marry someone who will make you happy, love you back, a polite man from a good family. I hope I'll meet him soon.'' he continued, but this time his face was serious.
'' Someone who will not love you back is not worth your time and beauty.''
Now that I think about it, maybe I should''ve followed his advice. And maybe, just, maybe, I would have found my prince.
