Chapter 4: What the hell is wrong with me?

*Aubrey's POV*

I wake up to blindingly bright light.

"Wake up," I hear a voice say.

I roll my head to see my adoptive mother (even though she technically hasn't adopted me) Karen.

I breathed in deeply and then rolled to my side letting the bright light hit my back, "Noooo," I mutter.

"Come on," she says soothingly, "I made breakfast."

That had me up and moving.

I heard Karen laugh softly under her breath.

"So where were you last night? Did you change? Because the girl's said you were checking something out," Karen said in a deeply curious tone.

Great, now let's tell her there's a murderer on the loose.

So we walked down stairs and had breakfast.

I explained to her about the murderer and the White brothers.

After I was finished explaining her face had turned an ashen color.

"You said Joseph White was a vampire killer for hire?" She asked.

"Yes."

"Does that mean..... Does that mean somebody could have sent him here to start an uproar in the town that we just moved to," she said suspiciously.

"Your right," I said misery creeping into my voice.

Could it be them?

Those assholes who kidnapped me less then a year ago?

I felt a slow chill creep up my spine at the thought.

It's okay, he's dead, a voice in my head reminded me.

I nodded mentally.

It's true.

The bastard who shall not be named is dead.

I made damn well sure of that.

The bastard who-...

Never mind. I don't really like talking about it.

Makes me sound like a poor helpless victim, you know?

"You better hurry if you don't want to be late to school," Karen said in a polite yet firm voice that said 'You better hurry up or I will give you hell for going to school late'.

I gave her a half-smile, happy that she interrupted my thought down horrid memory lane.

"SISSSSYYY!!!" I heard a screech behind me, making me almost choke on the glass of orange juice I was chugging down.

I turned around and saw Maya standing there.

She had half of her hair in a lopsided pony tail, and then the other half was soaking wet and clinging to her head.

"Oh my Maya," I heard Karen say beside me.

I turned around and opened my arms up to Maya.

She squealed and ran toward me crashing me in a hug.

"Why didn't you come home last night," she pouted, "I wanted to play 'dress up' again," she said giving me a pouty face.

"Awww.. I'm sorry hun, but I had stuff to do," I told her apologetically.
