Halfway through the job fair, all of the retail and sales jobs left, replaced with carts and trucks of food that the school paid for. This was part two of the mandatory job fair where we would get food only if we signed up for the place that the food came from.

Macy and Carter had long since come back, hands intertwined.

I signed the loopy s of my last name and received the ice cream cone from the sweet old lady in the truck.

"Enna, do you know how much calories that thing has? I don't know how you do it. It's not fair. You just eat and eat and I'm over here watching what I eat and I just keep getting fat." Macy whined picking at the vegetables that she had gotten from the truck of what seemed to be the only vegan restaurant in town.

"You're not fat babe." Carter said mechanically since he had grown accustomed to her self conscious rants.

I blinked at her choosing not to respond as I continued to lick my vanilla cone.

"Oh, a bakery?" Macy said bouncing over to a cart, dumping the vegetables into a nearby trash can. "How refreshingly chic. Since when did we have one of those?"

She was eyeing a tray of Danishes when Carter and I had caught up to her.

"What's in this?" she asked the guy at the cart.

I looked at him and was surprised to see that it was the pale boy from earlier. He was sitting on a tall stool, his feet wrapped around the bottom rung. He looked out of place compared to everyone at the fair. He was wearing a black shirt with the name of the bakery in the top left corner, dark jeans, and well worn black sneakers. I wondered how he could breathe in this heat.

"I don't know," he mumbled to Macy who was still eyeing the Danishes. "Cheese and fruit I guess."

She narrowed her eyes at the tray as if she was trying to stare lasers at the poor defenseless desserts. Finally, she let out a defeated sigh.

"Where's the sign up sheet?" she asked holding her hand out towards him impatiently.

"Just take it," he muttered, pushing his fingers through his hair.

"What if I want to work here?" she pouted.

"You don't." he said looking at Macy with a dead look in his eyes.

She rolled her eyes and then placed a Danish on her plate. She started to walk away but then turned back around grabbing another one, as if she was saying fuck you to the boy and to her diet.

Carter took a double chocolate cupcake before chasing after Macy.

I tilted my head at the pale boy and he sent me a deadpan look.

"Can I sign up?" I asked narrowing my eyes at him, calling his bluff.

He opened his mouth to protest but then let out a resigned puff of air. He reached under his stool and pulled out a clipboard with a crumbled up piece of paper.

Taking it from him, I wasnt surprised to see that the paper was blank. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"I work full time," he explained with a bored tone. "Whoever signs that has to be tolerable."

"I'm tolerable?" I joked offering him a wide grin.

He didn't react, instead pushing sweat saturated wisps of hair out of his face.

"I'm Enna by the way," I told him after printing my name and number on the clipboard.

"Okay," he mumbled taking the clipboard back from me and tucking it under his seat again.

I gave him a small wave and caught up with Macy and Carter who were at a smoothie truck.

"Eww, why does this have seeds?" Macy complained pushing her smoothie away.

"Because it's a strawberry smoothie Macy." I answered taking a long sip from my mango one.

"Hey guys," Daniel greeted sitting next to me. After leaving the smoothie truck we had found a picnic table to sit at, deciding that we were done for the day. "Can I have some?" he asked pointing to my half finished smoothie.

I pushed it towards him and looked over at the remaining booths. My eyes landed on the pale blonde boy who now had earbuds in his ears and had put up a sign saying free food.

"Who's that?" I asked interrupting another conversation about plans for spring break.

"Who's that who?" Macy asked turning to see what I was looking at him.

"Him," I said nodding over to the bakery's booth.

"Don't know," Carter said with a shrug.

"That's Jimmy's roommate," Daniel said spinning my- now empty- smoothie cup on the table.

"Who's Jimmy?" Macy asked turning back around, suddenly interested in the conversation.

"Alex's older brother," Daniel answered.

"Alex Murphy or Alex Ferguson?" I asked tilting my head at him.

"Murphy," I nodded my head in understanding. Macy looked over at me waiting. Although she was bubbly and friendly, she had a problem with remembering names and since I was so good with names and faces she relied on me when I was stuck.

"Hot Alex," I explained to her. She blinked at me, clearly still confused. "Jawline."

"Oh," she finally said.

"What about him?" Daniel asked getting back to the topic at hand.

"I don't know," I mumbled. "He just seems... interesting."

"I want the world in my hands."
