I tapped my fingers impatiently on the wooden table as I watched his blue eyes repetively eye the equation. In my eyes, the equation was child's play but not everyone's brain worked like mine did. Though I hated to admit it, I was overly smart. Probably too smart for my own good. Being smart had some measly perks, but it also had it's very own set of downsides. Being the top of your class and needing money led to one thing. Tutoring. Normally I wouldn't mind if Luke Hemmings hadn't become a student of mine. Luke Hemmings is the school bad boy. He wears band shirts, is late to class ( if he isn't skipping), smokes cigarettes, bangs girls, and destroys people's lives if they mess with him.
I was his tutor for geometry. He had taken this class twice already and was failing for the third time. We always met at his house and I usually sat there for three hours getting nothing accomplished because Luke refused to cooperate. I ran a hand through my long brown hair as he actually picked his pencil up and began completing an equation. He then finished, pushing the spiral notebook over to me. I looked it over, quickly.
" Is it right?" He asked.
" No." I answered.
"I don't understand this at all!" He whined.
" What confuses you about it?" I ask, trying to sound as if I care.
" Oh, don't even pretend! We both know you hate being here!" He scoffed, causing me to roll my eyes.
" I wasn't denying my distaste for this." I replied, calmly. He groaned, loudly sending the sound throughout the large house.
" Stop using big words! And if you hate it so much here, why'd you accept?!" He asked, obviously annoyed.
" Because it makes me look bad." I answer, trying to keep my calm stature.
" Poor valedictorian! Can't have a mark on her precious record." He cooed, sarcastically. I rolled my eyes. He, then stood up, pulling a pack of igarettes from his back pocket. " I need a smoke." He grumbled, sighing. He pulled a brightly colored lighter from the same pocket ad lit the cigarette. He took a long drag from the cigarette. " You have the perfect life." He said. " You're smart, you're family's in tact, and you're heading to an amazing college." He said. He thought he knew me so well and the thought of that made me furious. I stood up to him. He towered over my height, but I didn't care.
" Aw poor rich Luke! So what that your parents are divorced?! I'd take that any day over what I have!" I told him, picking my stuff up. "You can find yourself another tutor!" I screamed, exiting the house and walked down the driveway. I pulled my car door open, shoving my stuff into the passenger and sitting down in the driver's seat. I fumbled, taking the keys out of my bag and stuck them into the ignition. I listened to the car's engine start up, lazily.
" You're supposed to be tutoring me!" He called out from the front door.
" And you're not supposed to be an asshole to your tutor!" I reminded him. Suddenly Luke was at my window.
" You're supposed to stay with me for another hour." He told me, quietly. "C'mon Audrey. I can't fail Geometry again." He begged. I sighed, knowing I was overreacting. I pulled my keys from the ignition.
" Fine." I answered, stepping out of the car with my stuff. I followed him back inside. We soon went back to completing Luke's geometry homework. After a while of sitting in the soft sounds of his pencil against his paper,he spoke up.
"What did you mean you'd rather deal with my problems?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow.
" What do you mean?" I asked.
"You said you'd rather deal with your parents getting divorced than what you currently deal with." He reminded me. I shook my head, looking down at the table.
" Nevermind." I mumbled.
" What did you mean?" He asked again with a little more force.
" Just drop it Luke!" I snapped. The alarm, signifying my time here was over, went off. I stood up. " See you next week." I mumbled, grabbing my stuff and walking out of the front door. I knew that I didn't want to go home, but I couldn't stay here. That was for sure. I put the keys into the ignition and started the car. Why did they choose me to be Luke's tutor?

The next morning was like every other. Well, almost. It was almost normal, aside from the fact that in the midst of eating my apple, Luke showed up at my door. "What are you doing here, Luke?" I asked, raising my eyebrows out of confusion.
" Taking you to school." He answered, rolling his eyes at me. He grabbed my bag amd my arm, dragging me out of the house and to his overly expensive car. It was obvious Luke was wealthy, especially since I had been to his house on several occasions.
" Do I have a choice?" I asked as he opened the passenger door for me. He shookhis head.
" Nope. Now get in." He demanded. I sighed, getting in. He slammed the door behind me. He got in on the driver's side. He pulled out of my driveway and down the road.
" Why are you driving me to school?" I asked, still utterly confused. He groaned, stopping at the red traffic light.
" Do you always ask so many questions, Williams?" He asked.
" Williams?"
"Well that's your last name isn't it?"
" Well yeah, but why are you calling me by my last name?"
" I think it sounds better than calling you Audrey. It's just so...proper." he told me, pronouncing my first name like it was poison. "Plus its obvious who your parents naed you after. " he commented, pulling into the school parking lot.
" Audrey Hepburn." We said, simultaniously.
" That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard." He told me, parking. I immediately got out.
" I think so too." I mumbled, walking away.
