"It was the Battle of the Ice claws. The Guardians were outnumbered. Things looked dark. But then Lyze of Kiel struck down the leader
of the evil owls. The Guardians were victorious. The owl kingdoms were free once more. And then they returned home, to the Great Tree of Ga'Hoole. But some say the evil king still lives... and wears a metal mask to hide his missing beak..."
The male barn owl whispered to the white shell of an egg.
"Hun, if she doesn't have daymares now in that egg, then she'll have them as soon as she's out." A female barn owl said from the other side of the hallow.
"And how do you know the she won't be a he?" The male owl retorted playfully.
The female owl shook her head. "A female always knows. You should know that by now, Aaron." She said mysteriously.
"Oh, hush up, Clover." Aaron said, turning away from the egg.
A loud crack was then heard in the air, so the two barn owl mates turned towards their egg. A long crack was visible in the white shell as a beak started to appear.
The egg soon broke open, showing a puff of dark down feathers covered in splinters of white egg shells.
Clover and Aaron looked at their owlet in amazement, for neither one have seen a black barn owlet before.
"Did we end up with a sooty egg?" Aaron asked in uncertainty. Clover started to pick off the little egg pieces. "No, but either way, we will love her no matter what."
Once all the egg pieces were off their daughter, they inspected her some more. "What about ash?" Clover asked, looking at her mate who gave her a questioning look. "It's short for Ashley but fits her appearance." She explained.
Aaron nodded slowly before nuzzling his daughter. "It sounds perfect." He mumbled.
