Alice awoke to the sounds of birds chirping. Or maybe it just sounded that way to her. She smiled widely and stretched before grabbing her pillow and laughing into it.
Angela raised her head from across the room. She checked her pocket watch and groaned.
"I hate when you wake up giddy," she mumbled, kicking the sheets off of her, " You don't go back to sleep even when it's early."
"What time is it?" she asked, ignoring her.
"5:38"
Alice smiled despite the nearly 4 hours of sleep she'd gotten, she'd never felt more rested and energized.
Angela was a different story. She just bundled herself up again and turned to face the wall.
Alice got up carefully, making sure the bed springs didn't creak for Angela's sake.
She grabbed her makeup bag in front of the mirror when she noticed something in front of the door.
A letter.
She picked it up and turned it over finding that it was addressed to-
"Alice ," written in big swirly letters.
Her heart thumped as she quietly opened it,
"dear Alice,
Is it too early.
I was taking a risk. I'd like to see you. Meet me in the empty classroom before breakfast. Don't be late.
-Draco MalfoyAlice clutched the letter to her chest.
She dared not put any music on, though she did feel like dancing; Angela hadn't slept well so she would let her sleep. Though their morning routine usually started with them getting ready, talking/ finishing homework to getting in early for breakfast; there were days when one or the other would roll in at 7:28 with their hair in a bun and last nights makeup still covering their faces; the regretful look of leaving their bed still lousy in their eyes.
Alice cursed. It was always the important days when she couldn't get her makeup right. She rubbed off her eyeliner wing, leaving a red mark. She swore, nobody ever saw her when her makeup actually looked perfect.
Her wing was the smallest bit uneven from the other and she would have fixed it but was afraid of making it worse. She quickly drew up a note for Angela for when she got up as she hurried out the door; making sure her hair looked soft, cute and was flowing freely.
There was an unusual tingle in the air; like the morning before a big storm. Growing up on the coast, Alice had grown accustomed to the signs of the sea. She missed the ocean so desperately.
"Alice?" somebody asked from behind her.
She turned around, "O-oh hey," she tried her best to smile at the boy.Zacharias Smith stared lowly at her. Her smile must have not been too convincing.
"Where you off to, then? Pretty early to be out of the dorms isn't it."
Alice guessed being captain of the quidditch team enabled his bossy, know-it-all attitude.
"Yes, well, I'm off to meet someone so-"
"Oh dear Alice," he stepped closer "We aren't talking about a romance now are we?" his sadness didn't sound too convincing, "Well, come on then, who is it"
