Those Nights
Chapter 2: Meeting You, Mysteroius Feelings
I had finished eating my dinner a while ago and here I am, laughing my head off with my cousins because of Matt’s embarrassing moment. He’s one of our cousin who’s had a lot of embarrassing moments but he shrugs it off anyway. What happened to him? He accidentally bumped into a waiter who was carrying a bowl of punch and because of it, he’s dripping wet and here he is, standing right in front of us, wiping himself. I took out my phone and decided to snap several photos of him to treasure another embarrassing moment of his.
“Shit, Kenzie.” He whined, rolling his head back.
“Yeah?” I giggle, taking another picture whilst he covered his face.
“Stop it.”
“Stop acting like a child,” I laughed. “One more.” I took the last picture as I felt someone’s eyes on me. I looked behind Matt, my smile fading away and saw this guy whom I’ve never met before; wearing a grey beanie staring at me. Okay, one, why was he staring? That’s rude, if that’s what other people say and two, who was he? I’ve never seen him before although I’m guessing he’s the one Jeff arrived here with. I’m not sure, though. After a couple of seconds, I looked away.
“Guys, I’ll be outside by the pool.” I said, getting up and made my way out. Once I got there, I sat on a pool chair and took out my iPod again.
I always love these kinds of nights. You know, you’re just by the pool alone with a few lights around you then you’re listening to music and everything just seems so calm. Plus palm trees are just standing tall, swaying around as the moon reflects through the pool are my kinds of nights.
“Mind if I sit here?” I heard someone say, cocking my head to the right and saw the ‘beanie guy’ who was staring earlier. I shrugged as an answer and sat on the other pool chair next to mine.
“It’s so peaceful here,” he says.
“Yeah, it is.” I sighed. Wait, earlier, he was staring at me and now he’s trying to start a conversation. That’s pretty weird for me I guess.
“Why were you staring at me earlier?” I blurt out.
“Me?” Stupid.
“Oh no, I was talking to the tree behind you – yes, you.” I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes.
“Sassy,” I hear him mutter. “I was staring at you?”
“I guess so, if you weren’t staring then I wouldn’t mention it but you were staring.”
“Hm, maybe it’s just one of those times when you kinda get lost in your own little world, you don’t even realize you’ve been staring at someone.”
“Maybe,” I shrug. “So your name?”
“Caleb, 16 and single.” he winked, making me chuckle.
“I didn’t even ask whether you’re taken or not and your age.”
“Yeah, and your name and how young?”
“Kenzie and I’m 15.”
“Single?”
“What kind of question is that?”
“One-word question?” I arched an eyebrow, “Just playing with you, Kenz.” He laughs.
“Anyways, how come I’ve never seen you here before?”
“I’m staying with your cousin, Jeff until Spring Break ends.”
“You’re friends with him?”
