Part 2
Once we had eventually lit a fire (it had taken a while. Barney's knife broke twice so it was kinda hard to chop up the wood) we all sat down and started at the sky, distant expressions on each of our faces.
"Funny, isn't it? Where life takes you..." Barney wonders out loud.
Megan and I remain expressionless, continuing to stare at the star-filled sky. It was dark now, as Barney predicted, and it was getting cold.
My head was a mess. What was going to happen to me? Would we all die on this island from starvation and thirst, or would somebody come and rescue us?
Maybe if one of us died, the others would eat us...
No, Isobel, that's a horrible thought. Don't think like that.
I sighed (for the billionth time that night) and stood up.
"Where are you going?" questioned Megan. She wasn't looking at me, she was still in a daze.
"To find something to eat. I'm starving." I answered, and without further question I grabbed my jacket from my pile of clothes, grabbed the knife, and set off into the woods.
I did'nt know where exactly I was going, but I did know that I needed some food, and I needed some now.
I carried on walking. It was almost impossible to see, so I tripped over something on the ground and fell on my face. "Ow.." I whimper. My hands were bleeding. I had obviously fell on something sharp.
Don't cry, it's only a little blood.
I pull myself together and run further and further into the woods. I look around, trying to figure out where I was. No such luck.
Damn it. I'm lost.
I grit my teeth and start to head back, when a noise startles me. Like a rabbit caught in headlights, I stay very still and grip my knife tightly.
There it is again. That noise.
I raise my weapon and look around anxiously.
"Hey! Put that down!"
I turn around in shock. It was a voice I recognised, but I couldn't quite figure out where I knew it from. It wasn't Barney's voice, and it definitely wasn't Megan's.
It was hard to see in the dark, but I could tell that the person that owned the mysterious voice was a boy.
"W-who's there?" I stutter. By now I was panicking. This person could be dangerous and, who knows, he might want to hurt me.
"Isobel? Is that you?"
The figure steps forward, with a torch in his hands. He looks and me and chuckles with disbelief.
"It is you!" he grins madly.
Now that I can see his face, I know who it is.
Ben Granger.
A brown haired, tall boy that was in my form class at school. I had never really talked to him before. He was, how can I put this... Intriguing.
Hardly anyone knew anything about him. He was kind of a mystery boy.
"Wow, I can't believe it's really you. Um, uhh, how are you doing?" he stammers, unsure of himself. I don't blame him.
"How am I doing?" I ask sarcastically. "Oh, you know, I'm good. It's not like I'm stranded on an island or anything!" I snap, maybe a bit too harshly.
"Whoa, sorry I asked." Ben laughs nervously. "So...are there others?"
"Yes."
"Who?"
"Megan Hawley, y'know, from school? And this American guy called Barney." I explain. Ben nods.in understanding.
"Do you have anyone with you, or...?" I trail off, too tired to even finish my sentence.
"Yeah, Jason Kemp's dead body. He...didn't make it." replies Ben, shuddering at the thought. "I put some flowers around him. Out of respect..."
I nod. I always liked Ben. He was a nice kid.
"That's so sad." I say. Again, I was at a loss of words.
"I know. All of this is so awful. I wish we could just all go home." says Ben
Now we are walking back to camp. We didn't really say much, we didn't have to. All we could hear was the sound of the sea and Barney and Megan talking laughing in the distance.
Once we reach them they turn around and smile at me. "Get us any dinner?" Megan asks hopefully.
"No, sorry." Their faces fall. "But, I did find Ben!" I exclaim pulling him out from behind a tree.
