on a Blue Train     with John Coltrane.
   an ambiance: commotion inside boxcars,
excitement precedes and follows
      dim lines of passenger cars.
a man, gentle one, mellowed out rubbing
each seat crease; watched by his collie.

  totems risen above warning signs,
    superstitions are vowels of
  religion,    uncertainty.

badum bawl     bum bum baw
crash   a bird pokes its head
from a nest of three. swivel and shake,
    uncertain of predators.
  this noise follows mama bird,
darting across Everglades; metal which scrapes,
wipes itself conceitedly across sky,
finding half a train in motion.
innards sliced down a center and gutted into
Wonka's mystical chocolate.
a sweet touch that keeps her
on her talons.

Pensive was not     the bird who survived.
