The two young detectives sat in front of Senior Detective Lyon, waiting to be issued their first case.

"Detective Hood, Detective Kelly. You're case is contained within this file. Read it, confide this information in no-one but each other and anyone I allow you to. This case is... different. And you two are the only detectives I feel will be able to handle it." Lyon said, stiffly. Hood and Kelly straightened their backs in the hard wooden chairs they were sitting in. Detective Calum Hood reached over the mahogany desk and swiped the file closer to him and his new colleague.

"Case 12: Lighthouse." Calum read, starting to open the bulky folder.

"Not here! I have arranged for you two to stay in a force apartment, get to know each other.  You must spend all of your spare time trying to figure this case out. Even the most experienced detectives have been unable solve this case, due to the fact the never actually come back from the lighthouse." Lyon said, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. He didn't particularly want to give the two youngsters the case, but he had no choice. In its two years of being investigated by the force he ran, not one detective he sent out to the remote lighthouse island ever came back alive.

"Sir, if you don't mind my asking, who did this case before us?" Detective Rian Kelly asked, leaning forward slightly.

"Well, Miss Kelly. Corporal Grimes, S. Detective Newton and Officer James. All three of these men did this case and not a single solitary piece of evidence had been recovered, except their bodies, of course." Detective Lyon said, taking a deep breath as he brought up the painful deaths of his old friends.

"Wow, okay. We'll look at the file and report back ASAP, sir!" Calum said, swiping the file into his arms and standing up.

"Agreed. See you soon, Detective Lyon." Rian said, following her colleague out of Lyon's office. "So, if we can't let any other people hear about the case, where do we go to discuss it?"

"We could go to the apartment they've set up for us to live in," Calum suggested. "I mean, if you want to."

"Sure, I guess that's the only place we won't be heard," Kelly shrugged. "I'll go to Corporal Grimes' assistant to get the keys."

"I'll come with." Detective Hood smiled.

"Hey, Ellie. Lyon said you had a set of keys to an apartment for us?" Kelly asked a small woman with brown hair and brown eyes.

"Yeah, Rian. You and uh... Calum Hood, right?" Ellie smiled. She used to work for the dead Corporal, but now was the receptionist of the detective division of New South Wales police force.

"Yeah, hey." Hood smiled.

"Well, detectives. Heres the apartment keys. Spare set on top of the door frame. Don't go too wild, kids!" Ellie cackled quietly.

"Aw, Ellie!" Rian exclaimed "Gross!"

"I was just kidding around," Ellie said, thrusting a set of keys into each of the detectives hands. "It's the penthouse apartment in Bushwell Buidling."

"Aw, cool!" Detective Hood said "C'mon, we can use my car." He grinned, grabbing his new roomate by the elbow and dragging her out to his silver Audi a3.

"Calum!"

"Rian!"

"You forgot the file." Rian giggled.

"Oh, god!" Calum said, running back into the futuristic building where he worked and grabbing the beige coloured file containing all of the information he and his colleague needed to know about their current case. "Got it! I don't think anyone read it."

"Good." Rian Kelly, in Calum Hood's opinion, was perfect. With shining, ice blue eyes, pale skin and glossy black hair, she was simply irresistible.

"Why do you think no-one's allowed to hear about this case?" Calum said, as his silver car pulled out of the parking lot of his workplace.

"I dunno, I overheard Lyon saying something about it yesterday, it's slipped my mind, though." Rian said, scratching her head, trying to remember what her boss had said. "Oh! He said it was dangerous and um.... I think that's all I heard."

"Why would he give it to us, then? This is our first case and it's killed three of the most skilled guys in this business? Wow, he thinks too highly of us." Calum tutted. "Do you know where Bushwell is?"

"I think so, it's just around the corner." Rian said, pointing to a large building with glass around the two floors at the top. "I'm guessing the glass thing is the penthouse, then."

"Probably."

"So um, I don't think we should read the file first, we should probably get to know each other a bit first," Rian said, shaking nervously in her seat. Her phone rang, signalling she had received a text message.

"Who is it?" Calum asked.

"Ellie. She said our parents know we had to move out for work purposes, so they packed a little bit for us, but we should go and get the rest of our stuff tomorrow." Rian recited.

"Here we ar-woah!" Calum said, in complete awe of the grandeur of the place he would be living, with such a beautiful girl.

"That is so pretty!" Rian said, her eyes saucer wide.

Just like you. Calum thought. "Do you want to go see the place first?"

After discovering their penthouse had a large living room with a big, flat screen, smart TV, every gaming console imaginable, a plush beige  sofa with two matching chairs and a full glass wall with a conjoined kitchen-dining room, all on the first floor. And on the second floor, three large bedrooms with king and queen sized beds, large TV's and en-suite bathrooms. The last room which they both cared to explore was the games room. It had am medium sized pool table, foosball table, a small bar strung with white fairy lights and more of the gaming consoles that were in the living room.

"Phwoar, who knew the police could be this glamorous?" Rian mused.

"I know! So, how 'bout a game of twenty questions?"

"Sure. I'll go first... um... full name?" Rian asked. Calum blushed profusely, tousling his black hair.

"Calum Thomas Hood. What's yours?"

"Rian Amber Kelly. Hobbies?"

The two had a lot in common, but now was the time that they were opening the dreaded file.
