The mob of villager's flickering torchlight cast shadows as they ran, causing the shadows to dance as villagers participated in the yearly tradition of the 'Fox Hunt.' A tradition that has been happening for 2 years now, always on the 10th of October, and would happen several times a month ever since the 'Fox' could run. An array of shouts could be heard, from anger to joy, as the mob chased the small dirty 'Fox' through the streets of the village. Above them all eyes watched, some watching to see how much longer it will take to catch the 'Fox'. While others watched on in despair as they knew they could do nothing to help or be faced with so much backlash. The 'Fox' ran as hard and as fast as his 4-year-old body could take him. His breath came in short bursts as the sound of his heart and breath drowned out the shouts of the mob behind him.
Taking a sharp turn the 4-year-old 'Fox' was met with the unfortunate sight of a dead end alleyway, it was too late to turn around so the boy hid behind a garbage bin finding himself a small gap between it and the wall. Hiding in the shadows he sat trying to stay hidden as he slowed his racing heart. "Where is he?" An angry voice yelled out into the alley. "He has to pay!" "Kill the fox!" "Find him!" "He couldn't have escaped, we need to look everywhere in here!" The mob's voices got louder and louder till it became one sound, a sound that has the young boy so afraid that he doesn't notice the garbage bin shift. Light flooded into the space illuminating the boy's tear-stained face. "There you are ya damn brat!" A stocky male villager said as he yanked the young boy from his spot. "Stop! L-leave me alone! I didn't do it!" The boy cried out in despair. "I don't give a damn brat! Someone has to pay!"
It felt like hours to the boy as he was cut, hit, stabbed, burned, yanked on, and yelled at till he was a bleeding mess. "Finally... we- we can finish what the Fourth wanted." A large male villager said between huffs as he was the last to hit the boy. "It's time for you to die, Demon!" The man raised his arm, knife in hand, and was about to slam the blade into the boy's chest when a figure appeared out of thin air stopping the man's arm mid-swing. "What are you doing Sir?" The figure asked, their voice making them seem as if they were a young girl. "Who the hell do you think you are? Hu?" The man yelled at them, struggling to free himself from the hold he is in. "I am a diplomat from a hidden village, here to make a peace and trade treaty. However, now I don't think that will happen... not that you will ever find out." Before anyone even had a chance to understand the person's words, the man's head rolled from his body and into the crowd.
From the shadows, a young girl, around the age of 12 years old, emerged holding a bloody kunai. She had short dark purple hair that transitioned into a sea foam green color that matched her eyes. She was wearing a green top with matching green pants with accents of purple and blue ninja sandals. "Get out of here now before I kill you, and no one will ever know." She said darkly. Quickly the mob disbursed as she turned to the bloodied kid. She slowly moved her hand over his chest to start some medical justu as she spoke to the kid. "Hey, are you alright? Why were you getting chased?" Slowly the boy opened his previously closed eyes to look at his savior. "I- I don't... don't know. They call me a demon but I don't know why." The girl nodded her head and observed the wounds on the boy. "Whats you name?" "What?" "Your name? You do have one right? Or are you just called Demon?" "Oh! No, my name is Naruto Uzumaki. W-whats your name?"
She stopped healing the now identified kid, Naruto, as she saw that his injuries were now pretty much healed. Slowly she helped him stand up as she pulled something from the shadows. "Here, I want you to have this alright. And I want to make a deal with you." She handed Naruto a kunai that had a seal placed on it. "First thing first, the deal. Naruto from what I have seen you haven't had a really good life and I want to do something to help you. Meaning I want to take you away from here but I'm too young to do so. Instead, we could do this, you become a ninja. By the time you graduate as a genin I will be old enough to adopt you. How does that sound?" Naruto's eyes lit up at the idea of being a ninja but even more so having a family. The girl laughed softly as she watched the boy nod and jump around in excitement.
"Alright, alright calm down. Now, the second thing is the kunai I gave you. I made it so if it is ever thrown into the ground I can be summoned to its location. So when you graduate you can use that to tell me you did it and I'll come to you. Or if you are ever in danger I can come and help you." "Can I use it several times?" "Un," she smiled at him. "Wait, so does that mean I'll have a kaa-san? That you'll be my mom?" She drew back as if she was hit. "W- would you like me to be?" She asked softly. "Yes!" Naruto cried out, jumping at her to hug her body. Hugging back she smiled softly at the boy in her arms.
"I'm sorry Naruto, but I need to be going alright?" She leaned back to look at his face. "You, you promise to... to return to get me?" "Of course, I never break of promise Naruto." They hugged each other again as she stood up and started to walk away. "Oh and Naruto?" She paused to make sure he was looking at her face, "Right now all you need to know is that my name is Timberlin Moon. I promise I'll see you again in 8 years Naruto. Become a great student, make sure people know the name Naruto Uzumaki, the ninja who will overcome all!" With a flourish of the wind and a dazzling smile, Timberlin disappeared into the night.
'I promise Kaa-san, I'll make sure people know my name. I'll make you proud of me, I'm sure I can do so in 8 years!'
