Jay made his way to the back of the ship. He decided to take a break from the party on the main deck and clear his head. Also it was too hard for him to see Carlos with Jane. Don't get him wrong; he's happy that Carlos has found someone. It's just he thought he would have more time to try to explain to his best friend that he has feelings for him. Maybe that's why he flirts with so many girls, Jay thought. To get his mind off of Carlos. To try and forget. But how can he forget when he's with him almost all the time. Jay's thoughts were soon interrupted by footsteps behind him. It was Mal.

"Hey, there you are," she said as she joined Jay at the rail of the ship looking out towards the water. "Why are you back here all alone?"

"Just wanted a moment to myself," Jay said lowly. He didn't tell anyone about his crush on Carlos. He wasn't much of a feelings person. He hated talking about how he felt. Jay was more of a man of action.

"This wouldn't have anything to do with Carlos being with Jane now would it?" Mal asked as she looked up at Jay. He scoffed.

"No," Jay tried to lie. "Why would it be anything about Carlos? I'm here with Lonnie. He's with Jane. I just wanted to take a moment from the party to breath a bit."

"The fact that you're being defensive and rambling tells me I'm right," Mal said turning to look at him. Jay looked down towards the water as it hit the side of the ship.

"How did you know?" Jay asked in a weak voice. It was the first time he really confessed his feelings about Carlos.

"It's the way you look at him sometimes," Mal started to say. "It's the same look Ben and I give each other." Jay said nothing to Mal's words. He lowered his head down in silence with his hands together on the rail.

"So?" Jay spat out in a sob. He looked back up at Mal with tears in his eyes. Her heart sank at the sight of him. She wiped away some falling tears on his cheeks and hugged him. Jay held onto her with more tears and sobs coming out of him.

"You spend so much time trying to take care of us that you haven't given any time to yourself to make yourself happy," Mal said to Jay who was beginning to calm down. "Jay, you deserve to be happy too."

"Love sucks," Jay said in a more angry tone.

"It doesn't," Mal chuckled a bit. "It's the best thing in the world. I know Carlos is with Jane, but I think you should just tell him so you can help yourself be happy instead of in pain all the time." Jay smiled at Mal and hugged her once again.

"Thank you Mal," Jay said in her ear. "I really needed this."

"You helped me Jay," Mal said looking up at him. "It's what friends are for."

"Guys," a voice from behind them said. They both turned and saw that it was Carlos. "I was beginning to wonder where you both ran off too."

"I'm going back to the party," Mal said. "I'll be here when you need me." She placed her hand on Jay's before she walked past Carlos with a smile to go find Ben.

"What's all that about?" Carlos asked in confusion. "Is something wrong?"

Jay didn't speak. He was afraid to speak, especially to Carlos. He didn't think he would ever tell Carlos how he felt. Now he had no choice. However, he began to think about how this would affect them. Would they still be friends? Would Carlos still date Jane? Would Carlos be upset with him? Would he just go back to the Isle?
