When the tears fell,
And everything starts to swell,
Just lean on me,
I'll be the boulder,
Protecting your abode,
Containing your load,
Your silver and gold,
But I'm not sturdy,
As I'm just a phony,
Looking strong,
But I could go wrong,
And spill the secrets,
Drag to the streets,
Your silver and gold,
Covered in mud,
Luster-lacking,
Covered in sludge,
Result of a plan,
With none other than,
Authorities on duty,
That weren't guilty,
Didn't think twice,
About the demise,
Dawn creaks,
I'm left in pieces,
Silver and Gold were homeless.

our literary editor in our college newspaper asked us to write a poem which was inspired by a news headline and its lead and this was my output. I thought I'd share this here. :) (sadly, my poem wasn't able to make it to the cut and wasn't published on the newspaper issue that time)
here's the headline where I took inspiration from:
Riprap Collapses in Marikina (Lifted from the Philippine Star, 092916)
Lead: MANILA, Philippines – Two families were left homeless after a riprap project of the Department of public works and Highways (DPWH) collapsed at dawn yesterday in Marikina City.
i hope you guys like it! vote if you do!
feel free to comment/leave feedback :)
