I was biking home from club activities when I passed a short, orange haired middle school student playing around with a volleyball. He definitely needed help with it, so I went over to the fence. "Hey kid, do you want some help?"
He got a shock and the ball bounced off his head. I giggled. He grabbed the ball again and ran over. "Yes please. I only just started." I started walking towards the gate when he looked at his phone. "Actually, never mind. I have to go home now."
"I'll wait." And I did wait while he grabbed his school bag and bike and put the volleyball back. Then we started walking to our homes.
"What's your name, kid?"
He looked at me. "Hinata Shoyo. What's yours?"
"Shirogane Hiriana. Why were you playing Volleyball by yourself, Shoyo? Did you not make a team?" It looked like I had hit a touchy subject.
Shoyo looked at the ground. "There wasn't a men's team for me to join, so I made one myself."
I looked at him in awe. "Well that's no easy feat. If you ever need help, I'm here, even though I don't go to your school."
He looked at me curiously. "What year are you in, anyway?"
"Second year of middle school. Don't laugh, I know I'm short." Shoyo smiled.
"I'm in my first year." I looked up at him. He's taller than both me and Yuu. I still giggled.
"You're tiny!"
His face turned red. "Well, I'm still growing!"
I giggled a bit more. "You sound just like my boyfriend at Chirodoriyama. 'I've still got some growing to do! I'll end up 20cm taller than you!' It's ridiculous." He started giggling as well.We reached my home fairly quickly and I walked through the gate. Shoyo was just about to leave to walk down the street when I picked up my volleyball. "Want to spike some tosses? Practice some receives?" His face just lit up. He grabbed his phone out and started typing away before putting it on his bag. We then walked out into my yard and started practicing.
He couldn't seem to get the hang of receiving though, but that won't be able to be fixed overnight. "Shoyo, you need to dip your hips, not bend over. Bending over just gives you the wrong angles."
"Like this?" He fixed his position.
"Better." And we continued. He would serve, because I'm bad at serving, then I would receive, he would receive again, I would set, and then he would spike the ball against the wall. A couple of times it would come back and hit him on the face, and that was always funny.Eventually, Hinata Shoyo had to go home. When I walked inside, I saw my parents getting into tidy clothes. I just raised my eyebrows. "We're going out to dinner to Nishinoya's restaurant." My dad answered the silent question. "It's the anniversary of their opening." I nodded in realisation. So that was what Yuu was getting so worked up about in practice after school. I rushed upstairs to put on a nice dress and tie my hair up before coming back downstairs. When I got downstairs, my parents, my sister and her girlfriend were waiting for me.
"Sorry for taking so long. I couldn't find my other shoe." They nodded in understanding and we walked out the door.We walked through the entrance to Yuu's family restaurant when I was tackled by Yuu himself. He attempted to squeeze the life out of me while saying, "I'm so glad you're here! I was afraid I was going to get lonely." He was still hugging me when his parents came over.
"It's nice to see you again, Mr and Mrs Shirogane, Amaya, Yasukie and Hiriana." Mr Nishinoya greeted us. "Yuu, why don't you and Hiriana go hangout in the garden or in the house." Yuu nodded, grabbed my hand, and dragged me outside. When we got outside, he grabbed a volleyball and threw it in my direction. Me being me, I instinctively caught it. When I looked up from the ball, he was already right next to me and grabbing my hand again. "Come on, let's go practice." I followed him to the back end of the garden before tossing the ball up.
"I still can't serve." I stated as I hit the ball wrong, making it go off to the side. He reached and rolled to receive it. It bounced off his arms and back in my direction. I watched for positioning before getting under it and tossing it up. Yuu then ran and spiked it off a wall. I then received it, he tossed and I spiked it off the wall. "I've decided to help this kid with his volleyball skills, as he has none." I said.
Yuu received the ball again. "What's his name?" Toss, spike.
"Hinata Shoyou. He's the only one on his team, but I guess that can't be helped." Receive.
"He sounds like a cool kid. If he ever gets a full team, I'll help you coach." Toss.
"Thanks, babe." I spiked it and it bounced back, hitting Yuu. "Oh my god, are you okay?!"
Yuu sat back up before rubbing his head. "You've never called me babe before. I like it." He smiled.
I gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Don't get used to it, you dork." I laughed and he smiled more. I held out my hand, and he took it. I pulled him up and he engulfed me in a hug. I wrapped my arms around him.
"Have you gotten shorter?" He asked leaning down to kiss my forehead.
"Nope, you've grown, dumbass." I said into his shoulder. I could feel him smiling. We pulled apart before I slapped his chest. "I'll catch up though. You're not allowed to be more than 10 cm taller until I've stopped growing."
He held out his hand. "Let's shake on it." I took his hand and shook it.
