The flight attendant gently nudged me awake, her blonde wisps slightly coming out of her bun and red uniform creasing whilst bending over."Miss we just landed," she said her voice smooth. I looked around to see people standing up get their carryons out of the top compartments. I nodded a thank you and got up myself fixing my white blouse and pulling up my blue jeans.
I opened the plan gray compartment above me carefully making sure nothing topples out, then proceeded to get my bag. I exited the plane behind and elderly man and whom I presumed was his wife and followed them to baggage claim not really knowing where it was myself.
I grabbed my forest green luggage off the the machine and checked the name tag to make sure it was mine. I only had the two bags due to shipping most of my personal belongings earlier with the help of my Aunt Marie.
Aunt Marie was very much against me moving to Forks with my uncle but I couldn't live in that town, it was like I was suffocating just by being there. I needed to get away and my Uncle Richard was my only other living relative. It's not like it was a hard discussion to make I always hated the town, the accident just gave me a good reason to leave.
I looked around the airport, it was fairly small. I tried to spot my Uncle but it was very hard (probably due to the fact I have seen the man since I was 8). Lucky it wasn't long until I heard a vaguely familiar voice call me.
"Winter!"
I looked around and spotted a familiar man. He was definitely from Latino heritage, sporting the dark hair and tan skin. The average heights man pulled me into a hug.
"Jesus look at you, it been forever since I last saw you." He said pulling away to get a good look at me, I offered a small smile.
"Yeah nine years too long Uncle Richard," I said softly looking down taking notice to his police uniform.
"Ah don't call me that makes me feel old, call me Rick. Let me help you with those," he said whilst grabbing me my bags, he lead me outside to the parking lot where his cruiser awaited.
'You can do this, can't be scared forever.' I told my self as I cautiously stepped into the car as Rick put my bags in the trunk. We drove in silence most of the way listening to the low hum of the radio until Rick broke it.
"So a friend of mine's daughter is new here too. She's your age, landed a hour before you maybe you two could make friends?" He said not taking his eyes of the road.
"Yeah maybe," I replied softly taking in the greenery passing us by not really used to so many trees. I was used to living in the busy city of Dallas Texas where it barely rained and lots of buildings. Moving to a small town in north Washington where it rained constantly was a very big change.
It turned to silence again both parties not knowing what to say and oddly comfortable with the silence. This gave me the time to think over everything that's happened the last month. My parents died, practically abandoned by my brother, I moved across the country to basically live with a stranger, and I get to start fresh as a normal teenager.
Normal.
That word taunted me, 'I could never be normal' I reminded myself. Ever since I was fourteen and got these powers nothing in my life has been normal. I can't really say I hate my powers because that would be a lie, they were probably one of the only good things in my life right now even if I could barley use them.
What I can say is they can get annoying at times, and the guilt of having to hide them has caused me to become slightly antisocial. It did take me a couple years to learn about them, master them, and become comfortable with them but it was pretty fun. I guess the annoying part was no longer being able to share them, having people in my life who understood me.
We quietly pull up to a two story house that was the color of a fading white with a peeling blue trim. Rick and I step out of the car, him moving to the trunk to retrieve my bags. With me ever so slowly walking up to the house, Rick unlocked the door.
"Home sweet home," Rick muttered to himself walking in. Looking around I took notice to the little to none decoration.
"Do you live here by yourself?" I asked curiously, he shook his head walking upstairs as I followed close behind.
"No my cat walnut is here some where." He answered lightly, I slightly nodded as we made are way to my room. He dropped the bags in front of the door and moved aside.
"This is your room, I had a friend of mine help decorate it we can changed anything if you like so yeah.." he said rubbing his hands together I utter a quiet thank you and he left me to get settled.
Picking up my bags I walked into my new room, it was pretty simple but I liked it. In the corner of the room was a full sized bed with my turquoise quilt, above that was a mounted shelf with my glass figurines that I made. To my left there was a door that I quickly found out was the bathroom, opposite of that was my closet that hung all my clothes. Next to my bed was a window and night stand. The floors were made of dark wood and on top was my oval shaped sea green and matching turquoise rug. I all around loved the room, I quickly unpacked the rest of my bags and got ready for bed.
That's of course when it hit me.
I have school tomorrow.
