Journal Entry
Monday at 7:45am

My summer has been great so far. Mother has been teaching me how to drive and Father brought home such a cute little baby kitten! I decided to name her Oreo because she is black with a large patch of white fur on her belly.

Closed at 8:00am

I lightly closed my journal and set it aside. I reached over to my desk lamp and switched the light on, its light shined through the room with no remorse, my eyes squinted at its brightness.

"Sweetie, I'm going to need you to start doing your chores today. You know... Clean the bathroom, wash the dishes, make sure the front room and guest room looks presentable. Okay?" My mother yelled to me from downstairs.

"Okay, ma!" I reassured her.
I wonder why everyone is so hyped today? Mom has been up and running since six this morning. My father is always out working, but even today he said he would be coming home a bit later than usual. Everyone was extra busy and I really wanted to know why. Also, my mother wouldn't urge me to clean the house so much unless something or someone was coming.
Hmm.
I wonder...

I eventually just shrugged off the thought and began to work on my chores. The sooner my chores are done, the sooner I can go out and hang with my friends. I began to wash the dishes in the kitchen and my mother came up behind me, giving my cheek a soft kiss before giving me more news.

"Okay, sweetie, me and dad will be out for a bit. We have to run some errands okay, but make sure everything stays clean and spotless. I want to see a clean home when we return, okay?" My mother demanded with a polite, but rushed tone. I looked sideways at her.

What are they not telling me? Why will they be gone for so long?

"Mother? What's going on?" I finally asked as I washed the last plate and dried it carefully.
"There's an old family friend we have who is struggling. We offered them a place to stay, which is here, and they will be staying here awhile until they can get their life back together, okay?" She quickly explained as she grabbed a banana from the top of the fridge.

I eyed her skeptically at first, but my mom barely lies, so I shrugged, believing her every word.
"So we are gonna have some person living with us." I bitterly stated. She gave me a look.
"Sweetie, this is why we didn't tell you. We know how crazy you act when we want to help others and give them somewhere to stay." She barked before grabbing her purse.

"It's not about you guys helping people! It's the fact that you guys give strangers access into your home!" I snapped at her.

"Sweetie, he is a family friend." She argued as she began to trot towards the door.
"Yeah... Riiight ~ a family friend." I muttered not believing it at all.

"Now, make sure the house stays tidy! If you invite your friends in, tell them to clean their trash. If you eat, clean your plate and put it back up, okay? Me and dad should be back around tonight or tomorrow morning." My mother advised me.

"Wait-what? Why will you guys be gone for so long?" I asked, not that I mind.
"The man we are picking up takes a ways to get to. The are located a few hours away from here, so.... Just make sure everything looks good when we return, that's all you need to worry about, okay?" She said as she closed the door behind her. Then silence.

Well, I wasn't expecting that at all. Their is someone coming to live with us for awhile. Some guy that I don't even know. I mean- don't get me wrong, I think helping those in need is fantastic! It's just that my family takes it to the extreme. It's nothing wrong with my family helping others because they are very prosperous, but they are a bit TOO generous sometimes. They make stupid decisions like letting thrives in are pantry because they are way too nice. I have to be like the gatekeeper here and watch everything that goes in and out to make sure there's nothing fishy going on.

It might come off as me being very skeptical and staring at everyone they help in a weird way, but if it means my family's safety, I'm going to do that. I mean I do love my family very much.

I snapped myself out of my thoughts and finished mopping the floor. When I was done I decided that I should hang with my friends in the time being. I scooped up my phone from the kitchen counter and dialed up my best friends, Rachel and Monae. This was going to be the first time we hung out this summer. I couldn't wait. I eagerly got ready and jumped into my car. We agreed to meet up at the mall.

Without further delay, I decided it was finally time to leave and go meet my girls.
