"Stop! You're not funny!" I scream at my perfect boyfriend, Lucas, who was attacking me in his brand new Tahoe. Both freshly being 16, we were the definition of young love. We had been best friends for years then eventually falling for each other and dating. He was tall, tan, and so perfect. He was the star wide receiver for the football team while also being the star soccer player for our school as well. He was perfectly fit and so polite. Soft, brown hair with bright hazel eyes that changed colors with what he was wearing. Nothing made me happier than hearing his booming laugh and feeling his strong arms wrap around my petite shoulders. I on the other hand, was short with very long brown hair and green eyes with the perfectly pouted pink lips. My name was Nell. Captain of the volleyball team and I ran track, making myself have a full school year of activites.
Together we were unstoppable. We had always been told we would be a forever. I would love to believe it. I would love to believe that we will together be forever. I feel like we should be. He was so perfect to me. He always surprised me and bought me little things and knew just how to make me feel better. No one knew me as well as he did, and now that I think about it, he knew me better than I knew myself.
"Make me, pretty girl." he smirked at me while continuing to tickle the weakest spot on my stomach, causing me to hunch over and scream in laughter.
I couldn't stop and so I just let him have his fun then he grabbed me and kissed me. The feeling of his lips were like no other. They fit so perfectly in mine and they were always soft and tasted just like him, which I loved.
We were supposed to be meeting up with our friends after his soccer game against our rival school. Of course though we got side tracked with each other, slowly making our way to leaving the school to the restaurant.
"Ok, seriously stop. We need to get going before everyone starts wondering where we are." I told him while trying to catch my breath from the evil attack I had just received and the wonderful kiss I had gotten.
We eventually got to dinner and ate with everyone then decided to go out and do something on our own to celebrate him scoring the winning goal. We went to a little place we had in town at the local college. It was on top of the hill that the college was located on, and you could see all over the city all the way to the lit up towers downtown. We just sat and talked for a while, something we have always done since we always have felt so open around each other and trusted each other so much.
"You know you suck at soccer right?" I ask jokingly while playing with his hair.
"You know what you suck? ..my dick!" he threw right back at me before putting me in a headlock.
I then jumped up and gave him a 'you're such a prick' look. This just made him grab me and pull me down again and kiss my forehead.
"You know I'm kidding, but seriously I'm good and you know it." He said with a smirk on his face, the one that made me melt.
I just shook my head and curled up into him. We then just sat in silence for a long time, just enjoying each others company.
About an hour later and many kisses later we decided it was time to head home. We got into the car and the first song that played was 'Drift Away' by Uncle Kracker which had always been our song. Belting the lyrics on the short ride home, "Thanks for the joy you've given me, I want you to know that I believe in your song, and rythym, and rhyme, and harmony, you helped me along, you made me strong.."
Eventually we got back to the school parking lot and he dropped me off by my matching Tahoe, just a different color. As he drove off with me trailing close behind, I began to wonder how lucky I was to have him. How lucky I was to say he was mine, even though so many other girls wanted him to be theirs.
The only thing that had worried me was his dad's new job. He worked as a congressman before up in Washington DC. He would just travel back and forth, even though we lived in southern Alabama. He recently had quit and moved jobs up to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, home of the University of Alabama. I was worried that this could possibly do something to us, our relationship, and most importantly our relationship.
As I was thinking this I noticed my phone ringing and looked down at the screen. My best friend since the beginning of middle school, James, was calling. I rolled my eyes figuring it either had something to do with more sports scholarships or his girlfriend and then picked up the phone.
"The big bad James Gordon is calling me! Wow I'm so starstruck!" I chuckled as I answered the phone.
"I mean who wouldn't be? I'm great in all kinds of ways." He spit right back at me making me roll my eyes one more time."
"Well what's up? You never call unless somethings horribly wrong or greatly amazing." I said in a sarcastic tone, barely swerving and missing a dead oppossum in the road.
"Well I was calling to tell you that this summer I was invited to a baseball camp in Louisiana! I'll be gone all summer but it's going to be such a great experience! It's so rare that someone our age gets asked to one of these, Nell! I'm going to be with college guys and there are going to be college and MLB scouts there!" he gushed to me and I could feel his excitement. James was a star athlete. He was far over 6 foot weighing around 250 pounds. He worked out almost everyday while keeping all high A's. He started on varsity football his freshman year which down here is hard to do and if you can do it, you're very well respected. He was one of the kindest hearts I had ever met, and I was so glad to say he was like my brother.
"That's so great! I'm so proud of you! I'm going to miss you, but I'll try to come see you as much as I can! I'm so happy for you!" I replied entergetically through the phone.
After talking to James about how this interferes with football and school and everything, I had gotten home and changed and gotten ready for bed. It was around 11 and tomorrow I had absolutely nothing planned. I'd probably go out with my girls.
Eventually, I finally fell asleep. Thinking about my best friend leaving me all summer and how amazing my boyfriend is.
