Chapter 14

Grey had seen his fair share of movies in his 17 years of life. And he had seen even more speechless expressions. Hell, he had been speechless himself countless times. He had witnessed countless times, that moment when time seemed to drag on forever like a slow moving endless stream with no middle, end, or beginning in site.

This was the way he felt now.

However the term “saved by the bell” always tended to come in handy. Grey was surprised when a knock sounded on the bedroom, followed by it being opened.

Grey was shocked to see the person that had occupied the chair next to his bed when he had awoken from his sleep.

The boy didn’t talk he simply walked over to Jasper and stood in front of him. Grey took the time to examine him and the even expanse of brownish- black hair that covered his head and his slightly small stature. He looked to be young so Grey assumed this was Jasper’s smaller brother, Jake? No, Jace. However, he could really say smaller since the boy probably eighty something like the rest of his family.

He didn’t talk; he just looked at Jasper with an irritated expression then pointed at Grey, ‘Why did he have to be brought into this?’

Jasper nodded, and Jace walked out of the room in a huff, well, isn’t there a stick up his ass.

“You have a visitor,” Jasper stated sharply. “I took the liberty of retrieving your clothes from your…house they are in the wardrobe feel free to use anything in this room.”

Grey nodded, though something bothered him about Jasper’s disposition; he had never seen him so defeated, so…rejected.

Something in Grey, he didn’t know if it was of his own free will, compelled him to move toward the other boy. Crawling slowly across the bed, he come to the point where he was straddling Jasper’s waist and sitting on his lap.

He absent mindedly ran his fingers across his boyfriends jaw line? Boyfriend…

It sounded right, Jasper was his boyfriend. He pissed him off most of the time and the looks he gave him made him want to punch the other boy. But Jasper had never failed to protect him, or have his back; he even made Grey laugh with his odd behavior.  This was probably what separated him from that creepy boy he barely knew and that lied to him from the man who was keeping a secret to protect him. Grey now had a new respect for those stupid girls in books that followed their vampire boyfriends because they “loved” them. Maybe they did it for the sense of safety, or completion, or…damn he was a chick.

Throughout his train of thought he realized he had been moving closer to the other boy. They were now sharing the same air and Grey wound his hand loosely through the back of Jasper’s silk black hair.

“I think you’re telling the truth, you really do want to protect me,” Grey whispered. “Are you sure I’m your mate?” Grey found himself pondering aloud rather than in his head.

Jasper nodded as he tentatively moved his hands to brace Grey closer to him.
