the fault of Starclan book #1: painful memories

hello, I'm crowfeather. this is my story. it all started when I was just a kit...

I was born in a damp, cold, and dark tunnel. WindClan had been attacked two moods before and had to flee to this tunnel.

I was born weak and small. my mother, Ashfoot, didn't think I would live. two days before I was born another queen, Morningflower, had given birth to a small brown tabby, Gorsekit.

I could feel a rasping tongue over my head. my sister, Petalkit , and my brother, Quailkit, has already opened their eyes.

I tried and tried to get my eyes open but they stayed shut. I just curled up next to my mother and fell asleep. I woke to muddy paws on my saggy pelt.

Ashfoot was scolding my brother and sister for developing on me. even I, weak, tiny Crowkit could tell my mother favored me more.

I wanted to play with my littermates so I tried again to open my eyes. my eyes opened a small bit and I could see!

I turned my wobbly head to Quailkit and Petalkit. they had eyes that were round and pretty. mine were dull and just like slits.

I turned toward the smell of my mother and looked at her. my mother was a big gray she cat with sparkling emerald eyes. I hoped my eyes were emerald.

I tried to take a step closer to Ashfoot but I collapsed. my saggy pelt was hanging on me and it looked like I was to small for my pelt.

I heard a loud purr and a large gray tail swept me toward Ashfoot. the pretty emerald eyes were looking at me. "what wonderful blue eyes you have." Ashfoot told me. "like chips of ice".

I was upset that I didn't have green eyes like Ashfoot but I liked blue eyes too. me and Ashfoot looked at each other lovingly until Quailkit came running to us.

"Petalkit wrenched my claw", Quailkit wailed. Ashfoot glared at him and sent him away. I was glad to have my mother to myself.
