One of my captors is in love with me.
This is so ridiculous beyond belief that my mind almost cannot comprehend it.
If he is in love with me, then why did he kidnap me in the first place?
Maybe it is the fact that he loves me that made him kidnap me.
Suddenly, I am so disgusted with this boy that I cannot think. He let me be captured off of the street. He let them tie me up. And he let Ron slap me.
Maybe he doesn't love me.
Maybe he made it up to make me more vulnerable.
As if I could get any more vulnerable.
Nick left a couple of hours ago, and the boy in the room with me is reading the paper in the corner.
"Hey, girl, whatever your name is. You made the front page."
He flips around the newspaper so the headline is facing me.
Below the text that reads, "Teenager Abducted, Police Baffled", there is a black and white shot of my last school picture.
In that photo, my hair is glossy and long, and my pink lips hold a sweet smile.
Now, my hair feels tangled and greasy, and my lips are scarred from me biting them.
It is like looking at a different girl.
"So, girl, is your daddy gonna give us what we want?"
I swallow. "I-I don't know. What is it that you want?"
He laughs and says, "Honey, what do you think?"
I turn away. His snickering face is too much for me to deal with.
The guards change once every hour, and soon the laughing boy leaves. I must say, they are very structured for kidnappers.
Sometime later, the secret door opens and all of the boys come in. I have not seen them all together since I was first kidnapped. They look healthier, better fed than four days ago.
They enter, rowdily laughing and talking loudly to each other.
By the look of them, I'd say quite a few were drunk.
On a table in the other corner of the garage, a tall boy holds a pen in one hand and a clipboard in the other.
Ron, stumbling around, yells to the tall boy, "Write this down. 'Dear Mr and Mrs. Congressman: We have kidnapped your daughter and we will kill her unless you put twenty thousand dollars in an envelope and send it to PO Box 118 by the end of the month. Love and hugs, The Kidnappers.'"
He finishes and then falls into uproarious laughter with the rest of the boys.
Does he mean that?
My head spins.
