Vera watched as the door to the operating wing opened and closed repeatedly, the bloody taste of Raven's mouth lingering on her lips. She couldn't help the tears that followed, Michael coming up behind her and leading her back to the waiting room, where she called her parents. They had come as soon as she called, the panic in Vera's voice giving enough indication. Rose walked in the door, James chasing after. Vera jumped up from Michael's lap and was immediately embraced by her mother, not worrying about her blood soaked tank top. "She'll be fine. She's in good hands," Rose attempted to console. Vera somehow found a way to halt her crying with those words, convincing herself that Raven truly was fine. The time elapsed since Raven went into the OR was an hour, and Vera's shirt encased dried blood all throughout the bottom hem.

"We brought an extra outfit just in case," James broke off the hug with his sentence, handing Vera a change of clothes, which happened to be her cheerleading uniform from the fall. Vera's expression went blank, and James responded, "It was the first thing I could find!" while throwing his hands in the air. The joke brought a smile to Vera's face as she walked to the closest bathroom to change. In the middle of putting on the green and white dress, a phone started to ring. Vera checked her phone, but it was silent. Searching her short pockets, she found Raven's phone that she confiscated before getting out of Michael's car. Reading the caller ID, Vera had no idea who it was, as the phone read, "Jaquelin". She answered anyway, saying, "Hello?" Jaquelin was surprised at the response, because no one typically answered but was more surprised at the voice that did answer.

"Who is this?"

"I could ask the same question."

"Well where is Raven?"

"I don't want to tell you where Raven is until you tell me who you are."

"This is her mother. And who are you?"

"This is Raven's girlfriend."

"Raven has a girlfriend?"

"Yes, and if you paid attention to her for once you would see she has feelings too."

"I do pay attention. It's just her father doesn't like her choices."

"What do you mean by 'choices'? Because she didn't choose to prefer women."

"Neither did I, but I'm not telling him that." Vera was shocked by the wording of the last statement.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Well, first off, I'm bisexual. Second off, I told her not to come out to her father, but she insisted."

"Are you telling me you knew Raven was gay?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying. She came out to me because she knew I was bisexual."

"What did you do all those times her dad hit her for being gay?"

"I tried to tell him that it wasn't a big deal, and that I can sort it out with her, but I couldn't stop him. And the time she was nearly killed for kissing you, I never forgave myself for letting that happen. I assume she ran off to your place, so I wanted to call her and make sure she was alright, but I couldn't escape my husband's ranting for the next three hours. So yes, I do care for my daughter. She just shuts me out for some reason. Now where is she?"

"S-She's in surgery for two gunshot wounds and a cigarette burn." Vera started to cry again, remembering the bloodshed. "Oh God! What hospital are you at?"

"Charleston General."

"Thanks. I'm on my way now. I'll see you there." They hung up, and Vera went back out to the waiting room to find Elle, Summer, Ryan, and Christopher talking to Rose and James since Michael didn't want to see any of them. His bitter animosity that wasn't even directed towards any of the Daniels family, except for Bo, isolated him from the group of mourners gathered in around the uncomfortable chairs. Vera got one look at Christopher and essentially punched him out. Ryan pulled her off him, not really knowing why she attacked him.
