Turn, Turn, Turn

Little Cloud heaved a rope with all her strength, hauling a stem of the mast back into place. A storm had badly damaged the Dutchman while one of the crew members steered the ship into a reef. The captain was not pleased. After a thorough flaying, the man had been sent to the brig to sit in the pain of his punishments ad the shame of his actions.

Alex heaved beside Little Cloud, doing her bast to keep up with the quick, steady rhythm the rest of the crew mercilessly pulled to. Davy Jones was in a mood, glaring from where he stood at the helm. He had been in quite the rage all day. Or at least whatever you could call this sun cycle. Rain slashed Little Clouds eyes like knives as it fell from the sky, and lightning cracked in the sky.

Despite having a mast in poor condition, the Dutchman was sailing to collect souls. Nobody knew how Jones figured out where to go, but Little Cloud knew better than to question it. Not even Alex, his own daughter, asked questions.

Alex and Little Cloud had been working well together. Davy Jones had authorized the training of Alex, and Little Cloud had obliged. Some days were good. Some days were challenging, but never a waste. Little Cloud had made Alex work on her sneak attacks by having her ambush her teacher at random times of the day, however, Alex had yet to prevail. So the training was going about average.

"Little Cloud." The harsh call of Davy Jones called her back to reality.

Handing her rope to another crew member, Little Cloud teleported up to where he was standing on the upper deck. "Yes, captain?"

"Come."He led her inside the cabin, where he and Alex bunked. Little Cloud always either slept in her own hammock below deck, or out under the stars. Or she didn't sleep at all.

"It is about Alex." He said, when he stopped walking.

"I gathered, from your sudden urge to seek privacy." Little Cloud replied.

The captain twitched his tentacles in an irritated fashion. "She has grown up. She is forming her own ideas, and ideals. Morals."

"And you are afraid that she will realize that you are the literal devil walking, and leave." Little Cloud finished when he stopped speaking. "Wait, can she leave?"

"She has sworn no oath. I want her to know what is right and what is wrong." Jones growled.

"What is right according to you, you mean?"

Davy Jones ignored her question. "I don't want her to love. To become attached. To feel compassion for anyone or anything I impart my judgment on."

"And you want to use me as an influence for said ideals." Little Cloud answered, yet again. A shadow of an idea, and inkling of a thought that Davy Jones actually cared for his daughter crossed her mind, She immediately discarded it.

"Exactly."

"Fine." Little Cloud sighed. "I'll do my best, but you know she can't stay confined to this box forever. She's immortal, apparently, and coming from someone who won't be dying anytime soon, she has a long life ahead of her. I will do what I can for now, but someday...."

"I will worry about that. You just do your job." Jones stomped out of the room, leaving Little Cloud rather furious. She followed him out, keeping her opinions to herself.

"Prepare for combat and the taking of souls, we are nearly there." Jones shouted. The ship dove under the water, traveling the final length of it's destination.
