"But this debate is not about humans against vampires." Alexa continued "It's about trying to establish some sort of unity and understanding among us all." Tall, blonde, slender and wearing all black as usual, Alexa snapped back.
"Establish unity and understanding?" Samantha cut in. "Do you realize that if we do not set boundaries, we can end up being the next extinct species? We are not here to negotiate. We are here to set laws and to protect our interest and humanity, and we, especially me, will not allow any more children, because that is what they are, children, to make mistakes that will not only leave terrible consequences, but also will destroy dreams and hopes of any real future."
"But setting a law on the age limit will not stop humans from wanting to be turned into vampires." Alexa was beginning to look frustrated.
"No, but I am hoping that it will give them enough time to really look at the monstrosity they want to become. Endless lives without souls, who feed on the weakness of humanity and who are abominations. That is what they are bound to become, and yes, it might not stop a few of the dim-witted, but I am sure that many of them will grow out of that preposterous phase that can only lead them to a world of pain and sorrow." Samantha said firmly.
"We do not feed off humanity. We are not soulless, and we are not abominations!" Alexa replied irritated.
"You go ahead and tell your king, that I will expose vampirism for what it truly is." Samantha though of the letters that kept her composed. ABC.
"Don't you dare address him!" The female vampire shouted, and Samantha knew she had to keep pressuring her.
"I will address it as and when I please. I would, if I could, cut off its head, stab its soulless chest, burn its evil body, and pour holy water on its ashes." Samantha knew she had to push that last button to disclose what they were.
"Tsara---" The vampire, who had tried to keep her cool shouted and exposed her fangs.
"We are going to take a short break, and we will continue with your questions and comments." The anchorman interrupted quickly looking disturbed.
Samantha was grateful that her interviews were all conducted in different studios because she was sure that Alexa would have killed her if she had been close enough. Her cellphone began to vibrate. She stared at the caller ID before answering.
"You were watching after all." She teased the person on the other line.
"I must admit I was watching." Henry sounded worried. The president of the Senate was more than a colleague; he was her close friend and mentor. "You pulled it off. That evil monster showed her true colors, but . . ." He hesitated.
"No buts, we agreed I was the only one who could pull this off, and I did."
"Yes, but I worry about your safety. I will contact Silver Hook's immediately and have them put up fences around your home."
"Come on, I don't need anything else from Silver Hook's. They have already done my entire home, inside out. If something happens to me, it will only prove to the world that they cannot be treated as equals, never mind be given the same opportunities we as humans have." She also feared for her life, but she could not worry Henry about something she had willingly agreed to.
"Yes, I know. But it's not fair to you to be taken as bait." This time he spoke firmly and determinedly. "You did great, Sam, but you need to be low-key for a while. I'm going to need you to take a couple of weeks off."
"No, that's not fair." She was now upset...she had to remember her ABC's.
"This is not a punishment. This is me trying to do all I can to protect you. We are weak without you, and I care for you too much to let anything happen to you. Do you understand this is me trying to take care of you." His voice was breaking.
