Aiden POV
My midnight black wolf glides through the woods gracefully, instinctively running towards the sound of my mate crying out in pain. She must be experiencing her first shift. I arrive at the old three story building in the middle of a clearing in the woods. I shift and grab a pair of shorts from the table beside the door, running up the stairs at an inhumane speed and stopping at her door. I push it open to see Allie and Brett standing around a shifting Kaylee, who is in obvious pain.
"Aiden!" She gasps, her body convulsing in a way not thought possible by humans. "It hurts... so much..." She manages to get out between shrieks of pain. In a moment, I am by her side, taking her hands in mine.
"I know, it will get better, I promise." I say genuinely feeling her pain. I remember the first time I shifted. I have heard that a mate can make the process of shifting much less painful, and while she has me here, I had no one. The pain was excruciatingly dreadful as I felt every bone in my body breaking and reforming, with no breaks from the pain at all. For born werewolves, the first shift is on our 16th birthday. For bitten werewolves, it happens whenever the inner wolf deems the body ready. It usually happens within a week of being bitten, but it can last as much as a month. With the full moon being in just two days, I have next to no time to teach her how to control her wolf during heat, so I will have to lock her up.
Why not take her right away? We both want it...
My wolf speaks in my head.
Where have you been the last week? You have been ignoring me!
I practically scream through the mind link. My wolf only scoffs.
I was trying not to take over and claim our mate. Ever since we saw her while we were picking up Allie, I have barely been hanging on to my control.
After that, I cut off the mind link and focus on Kaylee. I knew she would be in pain like this for at least two more hours, so I pulled a chair up beside her and held her hands for the duration of it.
*******
"She's going through final stage!" Brett exclaims. "She's about to shift into her full wolf."
I quickly whip my head in her direction, watching as her clothes rip as she finally shifts into her full wolf. It's hard to tell what's actually happening to her body, because the thick coat of fur keeps appearing and disappearing.
This goes on for about five minutes before finally, in place of Kaylee, stands a beautiful white wolf, with black ears, paws, and tail. Bitten wolves are always brown or white, so it came as no surprise to us. She gracefully leaps off the bed and lands in front of the full length mirror. She looks herself up and down, before leaping out the window.
"Kaylee!" I half-yell half-groan. I quickly shift into my wolf and chase after her. I see how quickly her wolf is disappearing into the trees and dart after her. I cannot seem to catch her though, her wolf must be on a very important mission. I chase her for about ten minutes, before we come out onto a road. I recognize the road as the one that killed half of her family in the crash. She lays down on the side of the road, whining. I quickly trot up to her and nudge her with my muzzle. Her wolf, Emerald, recognizes me as her mate and Alpha, but still darts into the woods. My wolf, Aaron, growls at her playfulness and darts after her.
