Fly Away

I was suspended over flames, only the color red in sight. My father stood before me, a pained look on his face.

"I'm sorry, Belle. I thought you could handle it. But I guess I was wrong." A hole appeared in his chest and he desintigrated into the fire below. Alik stood in his place, a smug grin on his face.

"I told 'ou I'd be back. Now, all I 'ave to do is get rid of 'ou." He took out a knife and slit the rope holding me up.

I plummeted to the infurno below, hearing an unfamiliar voice echo around me. "See you soon, my little dove."

I screamed, feeling sharp pain in my arm.

Suddenly, I shot up in my bed. I looked at the clock, which read 2:30 a.m., and saw Védö standing next to me with his paw in the air, claws out.

"Védö! What was that for?!" I screeched. He went up my hoodie and disappeared before his voice rang in my ear. "You were screaming and thrashing around. Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He sounded concerned.

I took a few slow breaths, slowing my heart from it's accelerated rate, due to the nightmare. "Yeah, I'm fine. Nightmare, that's all. Come back out."

He did so, curling up on my stomach. I looked down at him, cocking my eyebrow. "Are you serious?" He feined deafness and got more comfortable. I rolled my eyes, as well as my body on its side. Védö fell onto the bed next to me, then slipped off onto the floor. He glared up at me and layed down there.

I did the same, trying to forget the dream and go back to sleep. It felt like I had just closed my eyes when I heard banging on the door.

"Up! You needed to be ready to go in an hour." The lock clicked. "You have shower privileges today. Now, up!"

I heard receding footsteps as I sat up, stretching tiredly. I looked at the clock, saw it was 7 a.m., and got up. After collecting my clothes and such, I stumbled down the hall into the bathroom, Védö at my heels. I turned on the water and adjusted the heat until it was right, then put my clothes into the laundry basket next to Védö and got in.

Before you guys go all crazy saying, "that's inappropriate! He's a human boy watching you undress!" He's only a human in the cloak. I consider him a cat the rest of the time and also as a brother. If he was a human in the real world, then it would be different. Also, I had that same concern at first, but then I saw that when I'm changing or something, he has his face in a corner and doesn't move. I think it's fine.

After my shower, I got into the uniform and brushed my hair before scratching Védö on his chin, letting him know it was fine to look. He turned and examined the uniform, distaste in his eyes. I stood back up and studied myself in the mirror with yellow-green eyes. After feeling satisfied with how I looked, or as satisfied as I could be, I quickly brushed my teeth before walking back to my room.

Once I got there, I found cold oatmeal and a glass of water on my bedside table. I heard the door close and lock behind me, so my mother must have known I was out. I sighed through my nose and sat on my bed. I ate my tastless breakfast, watching Védö walk around my room and look in every nook and cranny in existence.

I swear, he may be a human in the cloak, but it's hard to remember that he's one when he acts like a cat in literally everything he does. Also, when I'm cleaning his litter box. Which he watches me do and I swear I can hear him laughing.

After finishing the meal I pulled on my black socks and black loafers. As I tied the laces, I called Védö into the cloak. Once he was inside, I turned it into a light black sweater and hid it under my yellow blazer. As if on cue at exactly 8 a.m., the door unlocked and my mother stood in the doorway, purse on her shoulder and keys in her hand.
