SECOND YEAR
Dear me,
I saw Potter when Father and I went to get my school supplies.
Summer was, as always, uneventful. Most of the time I rode around on my broom, scoping our estate. The Manor is truly beautiful, but when one stays here so long, it can become a bore.
The Ministry has been frantic, though, and Father is getting more cautious with the things we do and say around the Manor.
More Muggle protection systems are being set, so Father and I first went to Borgin and Burkes to sell some of our... darker items, around the house.
I've gotten a Nimbus Two Thousand and One! Better than Potter's, and I'm excited to shove that in his ugly face. Father has plans to get me on the Quidditch team, but I don't know how yet.
Anyways, when I approached Potter, Granger and the entire Weasel family had crawled out of it's hole. There was a new member joining Hogwarts—the only girl—and she was so obviously smitten with Potter.
Okay, before I go on, why would one ever be smitten with Potter?! He's so... unattractive! Well, not really, but there's nothing great about him. Anyways, the Weas– Weaslette, oh that's brilliant, the Weaslette doesn't even have a chance with Potter, anyways. Surely Potter will choose someone worth— richer to court. Though he's a pathetic orphan, his reputation could even land him in a nice Pureblood family. Not with a band of Blood Traitors and a ninety nine percent chance of children with red hair.
Okay, moving on...
Father had come and completely humiliated the Weasleys—which was hilarious—and then the Big Weasel attacked Father! It was savagely Muggle, and Father was infuriated. I've no idea why the man still has his job in the Ministry, disgracing the Malfoy name like that! Father even had a bruise near his eye—what if the Weasel had lost him his eyesight? It was totally barbaric, and completely disgusting.
Father apparently can't seem to cut the man from the Ministry.
It's strange. I feel as if Father is hiding something from me. I asked Mother is there was anything secretive that Father's doing as of lately, but she just told me not to worry about anything, and that everything is fine.
It doesn't feel that way.
Father doesn't hang out with me anymore. He's always been a busy man, but we used to have a daily stroll around Mother's garden. Now he can only do it twice a week, and he's always distracted anyways.
I don't know what's happening, but I don't like how right after the Dark Lord has apparently "come back", Father is being this secretive.
I just hope we—the Malfoys—don't get in too deep with the Dark Side.
Honorably,
Draco Malfoy
