Okay so- the reason she's so scared of birds is that she was attacked by a few as a child. Her dad took her to an amusement park when she was 6 and got her some fries. A few seagulls then started to peck at her food. Then a few more came, and soon enough a huge flock was chasing her as she tried to protect the french fries. She went home covered in poop, feathers, and cuts on her hands from the gulls biting her tiny fingers.
Her mom passed when she was 9, and her dad remarried. Her mom worked for NASA and died due to a malfunction in the not-so-air-tight seal on a ship. Nani wants to keep another kid from feeling the pain she felt by becoming a rocket scientist. She wants to help build better ships for safer trips, so the astronauts with families can make it home to them in one piece.
