A Hop, Skip, and a Jump Through Dimensions (Kakashi Fanfic)
The sticky air made my clothes cling tightly to my body as the rain began to fall. I grabbed Maria's arm and dragged her under an awning. It was the Friday school let out, and my best friend Maria and I had just finished 11 th grade. We always walked home together after school. All we had to do was cross the street, walk three blocks past the strip mall and there were our houses. Maria's short, strapless pink designer dress was soaked and her black heels tainted with mud. Her long, blond hair was dripping as she clung to her messenger bag as mascara dribbled down her face.
I don't remember how Maria and I became friends. She was the popular cheerleader type, and I was the athletic yet nerdy outcast. We had lived next door to eachother our whole lives, so that must've helped. We were almost opposite, but maybe that's how our unique friendship stayed strong.
My thick, dark hair hung in a braid down my back and my mascara-free brown eyes were clear. I wore a blue tank top and black Jean capris with flip flops. My typical attire. My black backpack was haphazardly slung over one shoulder and I was bored. Thunder cracked overhead. Maria shimmered.
"C'mon, Mar. Let's go inside." I said gently, gingerly grabbing her sweaty palm and pushing open the door to the coffee shop that we were standing by. Maria was utterly terrified of thunderstorms, so I had to get her in quickly. The door swooshed open and cool, refreshing air wash over us like a silky wave.
I relaxed a little as I dragged Maria inside. Her hair was matted and her blue eyes were darting back and forth wildly. She looked like a deranged gerbil. But of course, being the good friend I was, I didn't tell her about her outlandish appearance. Once we were both safe and sound inside, I looked around the store. But we weren't in a coffee shop. Rows and rows of manga and anime DVDs crowded the store and shelves were piles high with anime collectibles and limited edition items. It was my heaven. A small cashier kiosk sat at the bak of the small store, with a vending machine by it. I grabbed the wrist of my still whimpering friend and pulled her over towards the register. A portly old man with a grey comb-over greeted us. "Welcome to Mystic Manga and Anime! Can I help you find anything?" he asked, his eyes agleam with an emotion I couldn't decipher.
"Um, actually, what happened to the coffee shop that's always been here?" I asked, curious.
"On rainy days, weary travelers with a keen eye and a special skill can see my shop." the old man said, his voice mysterious.
"With all due respect sir, I think you've been reading too much manga." I said, wringing out my braid.
"We'll see about that," the old man said, with that same unidentified twinkle in his eyes.
"If you don't mind, I'd just like to buy a water for my friend here," I said, gesturing to a shivering Maria besides me, giving up on asking how the coffee shop vanished.
"Oh, well okay. But since you care for your friend so much, I'll give you a volume of manga for free, your choice!" he said eagerly. I stood there confused. What kind of nutcase gives out free merchandise because he thinks you're nice? I didn't know, but I was'nt one to argue with the receiving of free stuff. So I slid the door to the machine open and grabbed a bottle of water and placed it on the plexiglass counter.
"Now, go chose your free item!" he said overzealously, by no means trying to hide his excitement. I looked at him strangely, but then turned around I meandered through rows of brightly colored books, overwhelmed with the vast selection. But then, something changed. It felt like an invisible current was leading me to a shelf. So I let it make me walk. I stopped in front of the last shelf in the corner and felt my hand move upward. I tried to stop it, but it just kept moving. I didn't know wether to be fascinated or frightened, so I let it move. My hand grabbed the book at the end of the row. All of a sudden, I could move my hand again. Terrified about the earlier events, I clung to the book and ran to the cash register. I slammed it down into the table and said, "I'll take this one," I then recognized the look in the mans eyes. Knowledge. He knew I was going to pick that book. I quickly fiddled with my backpack and yanked out my wallet. This was just getting too weird. I saw Maria curled up in the corner of the room, shaking back and forward. Man, this storm must be getting to her. As if to prove a point, a thunder roared overhead and Maria let out a helpless whimper. I slammed the money on the table, grabbed the water and book, then sprinted towards my best friend. I hugged her, stroked her hair and murmured reassuring words in her ear. She sat, still shaking and sipping the water. I relaxed and looked at the book in my hands. Naruto. Huh. I had heard from some Friends of mine that it was good, so I opened the manuscript and was about to read when purple mist emerged from the fresh pages. I froze as it wafted around me and grabbed my arms. I couldn't move. It lifted me up and dragged me down. Down, right into the pages of the book.
I do not own naruto or any naruto characters
