Ash's Pov.
I stared blankly at the wall lined with Xbox One games. To my right, rain poured hard again the glass window of the game store. I could hear my makeshift best friend, coworker, and room mate shuffling around in the backroom, probably trying to get her vodka out of her secret hiding spot. In reality the hiding spot was just the women's locker, since her and I are the only females in our whole store no one ever looks in there.
She came striding through the door, smiling with her signature lighthearted smile. Her coffee hair was curled up tight from the wetness in the air. Her hazel eyes gleamed bright with what I knew was probably a terrible idea.
"I think we should get drunk tonight." She said and gave me an award winning smile, "After we get off work lets go out to a club, shall we?"
"You do realize by the time we get of work it will be like six o'clock in the morning." I gave her a point blank.
"So?" She shrugged, her smile now formed into a scrunched frown.
There was a long pause of silence.
"Sure, why not." I shrugged and she began to pump her fist in the air, "Just go get us food, I'm dying for some nandos."
"For fucks sake, why do I always have to go get the food?"
"Because you know your way around this town and I don't."
Lea stared blankly at me, "Well then maybe you should go outside and walk around more often."
We stared at each other for a long time, her with her sarcastic smirk and I with my irritated pursed lips. Both of us were far to stubborn to even think of baking down, but of course with our luck our stomachs got to us first and the loud grumbling in my stomach pushed Lea to simply roll her eyes and begin heading towards the door.
"You want your usual?" She called back, still heading out the door.
"Hell yeah!" I called back just as the door fell shut. I sighed. I was alone. Again. I could hear my heart beating slow and steady with the rain showering onto the window pane. The grey of the night reminded me of my first night in this city. Back then I didn't know Lea and I didn't have a place to call my own. All I had was my boyfriend of three years at the time, a thousand dollars in american cash, and a suitcase full of clothes. I was a year younger then, and oh so much dumber. I was so blindsided by the idea of being loved back then that I had forgotten that my needs were just as important as another's wants.
I looked to the clock. It was just passed one o'clock in the morning here. Most people were either stumbling out of pubs or sleeping their night away like any intelligent person would do. This was when it was the most dead. At about eleven we still had occasional random teenager coming in for a last second late night exchange, but by midnight, Lea and I essentially began being paid for sitting around. That's why it was such a shock to me that the entrance bell to our store chimed as I was staring up at the clock.
My gaze instantly moved towards the noise, afraid that it was possibly a robber coming to take the money of a lonely female cashier. To my complete surprise, it was a group of nine or ten young men stumbling in. The one in front, a tall blond with grey-blue eyes, stumbled the most. His narrow but cute face cracking a sideways smile as he flailed across the counter.
"You are verrrey pretteyy." The blond slurred his words.
He had either had a dozen too many shots or he was a lightweight, either way it left me in a position to watch as he started to slip off the said counter. Before he could completely fall to the floor though, a friend of his reached forward and hoisted him up. The friend was very large, not necessarily fat or tall, but thick perhaps. It was clear, even through many layers, that he had plenty of meat on his bones.
