Chapter 4: Epacse

"What is Titan?" Bruce interrogates, as he crouches in front of Kayne. He had managed to get her to sit in the chair again without using force.

This time he double handcuffed her to the chair on both her arms and legs with the diamond handcuffs that had chains.

Bruce could see that Kayne was physically trying to calm her self. Her eyes were tightly shut and her hands were fisted. She was taking measured breathes.

Bruce pulls out a syringe full of relaxing medicine and injects into her with no complaints but it seemed to make mp difference.

When she broke the table straight in half, her entire attitude changed. She seemed more like Kayne. She cooperated and worriedly asked if Bruce was okay. She attempted to answer more questions.

"Titan. It's a powerful and, I repeat, powerful drug. It-mmph." She groans, flinching violently against the chair.

Bruce holds her into the chair as she shutters. "What is it doing to you?" Bruce demands,  watching the handcuffs struggle just as hard as Kayne is.

"This was an unforeseen side effect, Bruce.  You have to under...s-stand. I didn't choose to take the drug. This is withdrawal. Soon. Very soon, I'm going to-" Kayne tries to get out before a scream of pain rips from her throat that is muffled into a sob of pain.

"What? What's going to happen to you?" Bruce fires out, his hands on Kayne's shoulders to see if he can get a look at her.

"This is bad. This is very bad Bruce. I thought I could hold her back but she has gotten stronger since the last time. People are going to die Bruce. You have to find Mistah J." She hisses, her face turned in his general direction.

“What’s going to happen to you?” Bruce repeats loudly.

Kayne stays quiet. Worry shots through Bruce as he grabs Kayne's  shoulders and shake her. His hand moving to her chin to pull her face up. Rather than being unresponsive like her lax body suggested, her face was tense.

"Kayne answer me. We can fix this. Please, we have to fix this." He begs, shaking her again.

A giggle escapes her lips with a smile before tossing her head back and cackling maniacally. Her eyes open to reveal red iris eyes.

Bruce flinches away from her as she puts her hands around the chains and tugs, once then twice. The cuffs give way and snap like a piece of clay.

With tight tugs, her ankles leave their restraints. The bat-shaped cuffs lined her wrists and ankles like braclets.

She stands slowly before convulsing and flinging her self back in her chair. Her eyes return to normal.

"Kayne?"  Bruce breathes as she shuts her eyes again.

Kayne struggles a bit, growling before her eyes snap open revealing red. “My name is not Kayne! Kayne is gone!” A high pitch Brooklyn voice snarls back.

Kay gasps before blinking and turning back to normal.

“Bruce run.” She manages to whisper before running into the bathroom.

Bruce jumps up and runs towards the bathroom to find it locked.

"Kayne, open the door!" Bruce demands, rearing back to kick the door open.

A sob sounding like a strangled "no" stops him briefly. The scream that erupts from the bathroom following up the sound of glass shattering stops him completely.

The door flies off the hinges and hits the wall, splintering everywhere. Kayne walks out with her hair torn out of her pigtails. Her eyes burning red.

"Batsy!" Kayne sings, "I'm home." Her mouth pulled in a wicked smile that could compete with the Joker. A switchblade held dutifully in her hand.

She saunters towards him. He brings up his arm in protection as she brings the blade whizzing through the air. What should hit his throat, sliced open his arm.

Blood hesitates before pouring out of the wound as Bruce backs up. She flips the blade around to arch it dangerously downward.

She jumps forward and wraps her legs around his head and goes to twist him to the ground but he falls forward putting her between him and the ground. Her legs concstricted his throat. Much to Bruce's awe, she doesn't seem bothered by being slammed into the ground by a 250 lb man.

She swings the knife down to his open face but he twists to where he's below her and brings his legs up to kick her off.

She slides across the floor but only a few feet before she buries her knife into the ground. Her red eyes burn as she jumps back up, easily plucking the knife out of the wood, with Bruce.

She runs towards him as he takes a step forwards. She jumps up as Bruce brings his hand up. His hand wraps around her ankle just like Kayne thought he would do as she brings her other foot around to kick him in the chest.

He releases her ankle when her foot connects with his chest. He flies across the room and breaks down the door to the room before hitting the banister. The banister cracked but didn't break. Bruce heaved himself out as he watched Kayne start walking towards him.

He moved quickly to the doorway of the room he choose specifaclly for this reason.

He hit a button that he thought he would never have to. A siren blared that seemed to cripple Kayne from the noise as steel doors slide close at the doorway and windows.

Something she threw resounded against the metal but the metal held. Bruce sighs in relief. His back burned from the impact of the door. His knees were killing him for even thinking of doing what he just did.

Laughter and shattering glass resounded from inside Kayne's room before the steel doors reopened. Bruce's stance stiffened for a fight but nothing came out of the room.

Bruce stepped into the room to realize why. Because there was no one in the room. The steel walls at the window were torn open and the windows shattered.

Bruce ran to the window and looked out of it to see no one lurking in the shadows. She was gone.

"Master Bruce,  what is all the commotion up there?" Alfred questions from downstairs.

The doorbell rang before Bruce could answer. Worry hit Bruce as he ran out of the room yelling, "Alfred don't open the door" but it was too late.

Although it wasn't Kayne standing by Alfred ready to kill him, like Bruce expected.

It was the Joker.

He had a knife pressed against Alfred's throat and a gun in his other hand. He was panting, and looked furious. His hair falling in his face, and his makeup slightly smeared.

"You have ten seconds to show me where you put her."
