Dab Howlter was stood in his bedroom staring at his reflection in the mirror. He wasn't really admiring himself or anything; he was just deep in thought. Butterflies filled his stomach as he grew nervous. It was the day before he returned to school. Surprisingly he liked school, after all his school was Hogwarts. Not many kids got the opportunity to say they attended a school for witches and wizards like himself. Outside of school, Dab was the only wizard he knew. Everybody else were just muggles which of course wasn't a bad thing however, Dab certainly wished he knew at least one person who understood him.

"Dinner!" The sound of his mother's voice broke Dab's thought process. He looked away from the mirror and exited his bedroom. His mother and father were sat at the dining table next to each other patiently waiting for Dab to take a seat. They were having one of his favourite meals: fish tacos. His plate was on the table in front of the purple chair. All the chairs at the dining table were different colours. Dab never asked why, he just went with it. It was probably his father Dil's idea. Once, Dab had dreamt that his father was being controlled by two Gods and although he knew this was crazy and most definitely impossible, he always liked to imagine the Gods had given Dil the idea. Dab sat down at the table and looked at his mother. "Excited for tomorrow?" She asked. Dab shrugged his shoulders. "I suppose so."
"Everything is going okay there, yes? Nobody's being mean or anything?" She questioned, concern filling her face. Dab's stomach dropped. He had a couple of friends but he was still always picked on for being a mudblood. He wasn't going to tell his mother this of course, she didn't need to know about it. "Of course. I love it there. Everything is fine, don't worry." The family sat in silence for the rest of the meal.

At midnight, Dab was sat at his desk drawing. He loved to draw as it was calming to him. Dab did love being at Hogwarts. He enjoyed spending time with his friend, Toto. Toto was his best friend and the person he'd spend most of his time with whilst at the school. With a sigh, Dab dropped the pencil he was using and watched it roll across the desk and onto the floor towards his bed. Perhaps, thought Dab, I should try and sleep. He'd have to be up early tomorrow. Kings Cross Station was quite far and he would have to get there on time otherwise he would miss the train and stay at home. That wouldn't be good.

"Wake up Dab, you need to get ready we're leaving in half an hour!"
Dab jumped at the sound of his father's voice. He had fallen asleep at his desk. Half an hour always flew by so Dab frantically searched in his draw for his wand. Once he found it he stood up and held the wand in front of him. "Accio uniform!" His uniform shot out of his wardrobe and landed on his bed in a neat pile. With a grin, Dab continued to pack his bag using the spell and once everything was ready he changed into his uniform. There was a knock at his door. "Come in!" Dab called, his hands steadily tying his yellow and black tie. The door opened and in came his mother with a pleasant smile on her face. "Are you nearly ready?" She asked, taking a seat on his bed next to the bag full of everything he'd packed. Dab nodded. From the corner of the room, his tawny owl which he'd named Susan 3 let out a screech. "It's going to be a nightmare traveling with him in the car, eh?" Dab said with a slight grin on his face. His mother laughed. "Yes. As always, but we'll manage just fine."

Around two hours later Dab was at Kings Cross Station waving goodbye to his parents. He'd miss them. He always did. A couple of muggles stared as Dab pushed his trolley along, Susan 3 squawking at almost every bird that he saw. A couple of other witches and wizards were pushing their trolleys about three meters in front of him and they stopped as they reached the wall between Platform 9 and 10. Dab watched as they ran at it and disappeared through. He had five minutes until the train left so he needed to hurry. Ignoring the hurry of muggles around him, Dab ran forward and just as he was about to hit the wall he closed his eyes. When he opened them again a wave of relief washed over his body. He was standing on platform 9 ¾.

"Dab!" Came a voice from somewhere in the crowd. Dab's eyes scanned through the large group of people until he saw Toto. "Toto!" Dab called back and pushed his trolley forward. "Hey" Dab said. Toto grinned. "Oh Dab, honestly you're always one of the last aren't you? Don't look so terrified! Come on! Let's go find somewhere to sit." Dab couldn't help but smile at his friend. Toto always had so much to say. Dab was outgoing too, or at least he used to be. After four years of Hogwarts and two years of the constant name calling, he'd lost some of his confidence. The two boys pushed their trolleys through the carriages of the train until finally they came across an empty compartment to sit in. Once the door had been pushed shut and the boys had sat down, a feeling of excitement rushed through Dab. It may not be the most pleasant of places, but Hogwarts was like his home and Dab had missed it insanely.
