Chapter One - Rivals
"Nice throw Homer! Keep it up!" Coach Dillon yells. "Hit the showers boys!"
"Damn man!" My best friend and wide receiver, Easton Parks, says as he runs up to me with a slap on the back. "Coach never tells us we're doing good."
"Yeah, whatever it's just cause he expects me to take us to the championships this year." I chuckle and open the door to the locker room. I hold it open for Easton and follow after him.
"And you will." He opens his mouth to say something else but I cut him off.
"All I have to do is beat those goddamn Mason Bulldogs." I scowl as I think of the Mason public school.
"Haha, yeah. Are you coming to my party?"
"Nah, gotta rest up. Plus I'm gonna be home alone so I can do anything." I wiggle my eyes at him and he laughs.
We both strip and get into the showers.
"Are you inviting Georgie over?" Georgie Jackson is my on again off again girlfriend. She's a bitch, which is why I don't really like her and our relationships don't last more then a week.
"Nah, I'm thinking of trying out the parents new jacuzzi." I laugh. "Naked." He joins in.
I finish showering and changing then grab my stuff and head out. Easton follows me out moments later.
My phone buzzes in my back pocket but I ignore it.
"Well if you change your mind, the party starts at 8." I unlock my car. "See ya, maybe later."
"Yeah, yeah." I wave. My phone starts to repeatedly buzz. I fish it out of my pocket and answer without seeing who it is.
"What's up?" I answer.
"Damn babe, getting straight to the point are we?" His voice answers from the other end of the line.
"I didn't know it was."
"That's a little dangerous isn't it? Answering without knowing who it is, you could say something you didn't want that person to know." His voice comes out.
"Yeah," I sigh. "I guess you're right." I open the car door and get in.
"Where are you right now?"
"I'm still at school. Where are you?"
"Out with my girlfriend." My hands clench on the steering wheel.
"Then why are you on the phone with me." I snap. God do I hate when he calls that bimbo whore his girlfriend.
"Chill, damn you're hot when you're jealous. I wish I was with you to see you." He smooth talks.
"Are you still coming over to my house after my parents leave?" I ask him as I start the car and buckle.
"Yes, what time are they leaving?" He answers.
"Um, 7 I think. I'll text you, okay?"
"Yeah yeah, I'll let you go so you can drive home carefully. See ya later Justice."
"Bye," We both hang up and I pull out of the parking lot. The 7 minute ride to my house seems to take forever as I try not to think about him and that skank.
After arriving home, I park my car in our 2 car garage and go inside.
"I'm home!" I call out. I walk into the kitchen and throw my keys on the counter. "Hey Riyan, are Mom and dad still here?"
"Yeah, they're packing though so I don't think that they want to be bothered." My younger brother, Riyan, was sitting at the table eating cereal.
"What time are you going to Gabe's house?" I ask him. Gabe Parks, Easton's younger brother is Riyan best friend.
"I don't really know. Since Easton's having his party we're going to Gabe's dads house." Gabe and Easton have different fathers.
"You're not going to the party?" He shakes his head.
"Ah! Justice you're home! How was school?" Mom cuts off our conversation and hugs me.
"It was fine. Bombed my science test though. I'll have to talk to Forbes to see if there's any extra credit."
My Mom smiles at me. "I'm sure you'll be fine."
Dad walks in and slaps me on the back before heading outside to put his and moms stuff into the car.
"Oh, Riyan do you need a ride to Gabe's house?" Mom asks Riyan.
"Yeah," He finishes his cereal and puts the bowl in the sink.
"Ok, well our flight was moved up to 6:30 so we're going to have to leave at 6."
"Ok," I look at the clock and see that it was 5:45.
Mom hugs me again and says bye before dad comes in and hugs me.
"Bye!" I call after the retreating car.
I wait before I see the retreating car go down the street and make a left turn. I run inside and grab my phone -- which I had placed on the table sometime during my conversation with Riyan.
I dial his number and it rings and rings.
"Hello?" His breathless voice answers the phone.
"Hey," I say kinda awkwardly. "What's up?"
"Hold on," I hear his say something to someone and then a door opening and closing. "What's up babe?"
"My parents left so whenever you're ready, you can come over." I nervously say.
"Ok, I'll be over soon. I gotta get rid of Carrie." Ew, skank alert.
"Oh, I didn't know you were with her. You can hang with her if you want. I don't care. I didn't even-" I ramble.
"Dude, shut the fuck up. I'm coming over to see you. So we can hang. You're the one I'd rather be around." I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding. "I'll see you in a few."
I waited about 15 minutes before he finally showed up. I was watching tv when I heard his car pull in. I tried not to get to excited. After a few moments I heard the door open.
"Honey I'm home!" I look behind me to see his blue eyes lit up at his joke.
"How was work?" I tease, playing his joke.
"Fine, would have been better if you were there of course." He walks over and plops down beside me. "What about you?"
"Fine, boring but fine." I replied with a sigh.
"How was science? How'd you do on the test?" He asks with hopeful eyes.
"I bombed it. It's like I can't actually remember the stuff no matter how much I study."
"I'll help you. We can study. But not tonight. Cause tonight I'm going to have fun with my boyfriend." He cheekily smiled at me.
"Okay boyfriend, how about we check out the Jacuzzi, cause I can't wait to see my boyfriend's body. The Reed Archer." We both smile at one another.
