Chapter One

"Noelle, Luke's here!" my mom shouted from downstairs.

"Coming!" I said, picking up my brown sling bag and jogging down the stairs. Luke was sitting in the dining table eating some blueberry waffles from the plate in front of him. I went to my parents and gave them each a kiss on the forehead.

"Good morning, sweetheart," my mom said, pouring some orange juice in my dad's glass.

"Morning," I smiled. I went to the other side of the dining table and stole Luke's waffles, savoring it in my mouth.

"Good morning to you too, gorgeous," he said sarcastically.

"Hey, hot stuff," I said, rolling my eyes before drinking the orange juice.

"Time check: 7:45," he said looking at the wall clock. He gave me that let's-get-outta-here look. I had to suppress a laugh and we went to the front door.

"I'm going now."

"Have a good day," my dad said.

We got in his range rover and he pulled out from my driveway. I finally let out the laugh I was holding.

"Whatever," he muttered.

You see, Luke has always been awkward with my parents. I told him that they'll get along soon but obviously he's still not trying to make a.conversation with them. My parents, on the other hand, are not trying to make a conversation with him because I told them I wanted Luke to man up. I, Noelle Sendersen, am helping my friend to man up through awkward tension torture.

"Thanks for giving me a ride by the way," I said.

He glanced at me. "No problem. When do you think will your car be fixed?"

"Sometime around next week," He nodded in response. We arrived at Eleanor High and were about to park in his usual spot but a bike was parked on it.

"Since when did someone dare to take my place?" He asked more to himself.

"Newsflash Luke, you aren't that intimidating."

"Of course I am," he pouted at me. I laughed at his facial expression. Pouting doesn't suit him. Never will. So we ended up parking in some other spot. We went in the building, responding to some "hi's" and "hello's".

"See you at lunch," I hollered, parting ways. We only have the same classes in the afternoon. I saw my other best friend, Diana, walking towards me.

"You should've come to the party. Viola was acting so hilarious after drinking two shots," she said, smiling at the memory. Viola is our other best friend, but she studies in Carrie High because her dad was strict enough to put her in an all girl school from her junior year. But we always find a way to hang out, since she lives in the same neighborhood as Diana and I.

"Lightheaded as always," I smirked at her comment.

"Says the one who says random things after three shots," I said. She mocked glared at me.

"That's three. Viola gets drunk after two."

"Mhmm. Whatever you say, dear," I said, closing my locker. We headed to our first period - AP History. That means Joel will he there. Joel, my crush since freshman. He is any teenage girl's dream. The popular, but not arrogant. I got to be friends with him because of my best friend, Luke.
