Chapter Three- The Black Cat Told Me To
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" I whispered, not even knowing why since no one was around.
"You're not backing out on me!" Liz stated, shoving me closer to the building we were supposed to be breaking into.
"But you never mentioned I'd have to suddenly transform into spider man!" I responded in a panicked voice, scaling the height from the ground to the open window. And let me tell you, it wasn't an exactly comfortable height to be at.
"And anyway, why can't you go first? You seem to want to do this more then me!" I added, staring at Liz as she rolled her eyes, making it seem like her answer was obvious.
"I'm keeping watch, Harley. You don't want to get arrested, do you?" She answered as she pushed me impossibly closer to the establishment. I stared at her for a couple of seconds while she just gave me 'the look'.
"Fine." I begrudgingly mumbled. If someone sees, she is paying for my bail from prison. And then buying me a unicorn as she begs for my forgiveness. I smiled to myself, that would show her.
Shaking myself from my reverie, I began climbing the dumpster that was conveniently placed below the window. I could feel the grime that caked the bin reside on my hands and had me cringing in disgust. Once I'd struggled to the top of it, I dusted myself before figuring out where to go next. Apprehensively, I tested my hands on the scaffolding which lay not too far from the dumpster and gave me a little more height. When the scaffolding didn't move, I deemed it safe to climb on and I began trying to push myself on top of it.
Although, before I could get completely onto the scaffolding, a loud shout caused me to freeze where I was.
"Hey!" the voice yelled, "What are you kids doing?"
Panicked, I took a glance behind me to see one of the venue marshall's running towards us. Quickly, I tried to rush off of the dumpster.
"Code black, Harley! Code black!" Liz whisper shouted as she tried to hurry me with her eyes and exaggerated hand gestures.
By the time I had reached the ground, the guard was now only a couple of metres away. So, without hesitation, Liz grabbed my wrist and pulled me swiftly away- starting the race which would decide whether we were getting a criminal record or not.
"Hey, kids! Stop!" the man shouted from behind us but our speed was not wavered.
Liz lead me down multifarious alleyways, trying to loose the guard who was now panting and slowing down while adrenaline was still coursing through our veins as if our life was on the line.
Hastily, Liz dragged me behind a dumpster and crouched down-- willing me to do the same. We watched as the marshall stopped, looking around as we breathed heavily, hoping that he didn't have an ounce of intuition to where we were.
Silently, we both sighed we saw him walk away, talking on his phone.
"Come on, we need to get out of here before he calls backup and we're both in big shit." I whispered to Liz who reluctantly nodded and crept from behind the bin. We began the walk back to the car, wherever that was. It wouldn't take a genius to figure out we completely and utterly lost. To be honest, I was more focused on getting away from a burly man with a baton than to remember where we were going.
At guess, we took a left down the first alleyway we saw and began walking, sticking close to each other due to the buildings either side casting an eerie shadow upon us. Although, we soon came across a fork in the road.
"Should we split up?" Liz asked, casting an uneasy glance my way.
"Haha, I think not" I replied shakily, gazing down each path and waited for something to jump from the shadows. By now, the sun was long gone and the owners of these alleys apparently didn't think to invest in any street lamps.
Liz began muttering under her breath, glancing at each alleyway every couple of seconds.
"What are you doing?" I asked cautiously, hoping the panic hadn't driven my friend insane-- I could barely stay calm with a normal Liz, never mind a mentally challenged one.
"Shut up! I lost where I was!" Liz moaned, rolling her eyes and turning back towards the cross path.
With a hefty sigh she began her ramblings, although a little louder this time.
"Eenie meenie minie mo, catch a piggy by its toe, if it squeals let it go, eenie meenie minie mo. The black cat does not choose you" she said, pointing to the alley on the left by the end.
"So that way?" I asked, unsure as to what Liz was trying to get at.
"Were you not listening?" she exclaimed, "The cat obviously said that that path was not chosen"
And so, she turned to the remaining two alleys- repeating the same stupid rhyme again.
"Eenie meenie minie mo, catch a piggy by its toe, if it squeals let it go, eenie meenie minie mo. The black cat does not choose you" she exaggeratedly ended pointing to the middle alley.
"So we go...right?" I questioned, cautiously.
"You're catching on quickly my half-hearted amigo!" she said, grinning and began walking towards the right alley way.
Having absolutely no idea what she was talking about, I decided to ignore her comment and follow her through the darkness-- sticking close to her small figure as my mind decided that I hadn't thought about serial killers for a while now.
And what an opportune moment to start.

Yeah, I know it is REALLY short and I am ashamed of myself :( Like a lot.
But it had been FOREVER since I last updated and I felt bad and stuff so I wanted to give at least something. I signed on today and I'm nearly at 400 reads on this book-- it is absolutely crazy, dude!
I know I don't deserve it but if you are physically able to click on the vote button, please do. It helps a lot (I promise) ---really hoping you get that reference there. Maybe in a bit I'll come back and add a bit more to this before the next chapter to make it better but HERE YOU GO!
ALSO, thank you for persevering! I have been so difficult with this story, I know. But your continual support is very much appreciated. :)
