The next day there was a blizzard, Quidditch practice was cancelled so I was roaming the halls. Many people were scared of Harry, poor kid, it wasn't his fault that he spoke Parseltongue.
I found Fred in the third floor, flirting with Angelina. Honestly, how can they like her? She is such a... ugh! I hate her so much. I don't know what I did to infuriate her so much but she hates my guts and uses every opportunity she has to remind me she does or to insult me in the most horrible way she can.
"Hey, Lupin, did you know you look even worse in winter?" I heard her say.
"Why don't you get a fucking life of your own and stop messing in mine, Johnson?!" I yelled at her, practically breathing fire at her.
She huffed, turned around and left. Fred looked conflicted between following her of coming to me. He sighed and walked to where I was. He smiled at me.
"Hey kiddo" Fred said, messing my hair.
"How is George?" I asked him. Yup, still not talking to him.
"He misses you. When are you going to forgive him? You know how he is, he messes around and sometimes he crosses the line" Fred excused his brother.
"I know, and I forgave him long ago, but I want him to tell me what you just told me, that he crossed the line and he's sorry" I smiled at Fred and rested my head on his shoulder.
Jeez, how I adored him. Him and George, they were my best friends. Felix? He was in another level above the label 'best friend'. It was like that one person you know it's meant for you, either as a friend, a sibling or something else.
"I'm going to search for your brother. See you later" I told Fred and went to the stairs.
He was not in the fourth floor so I went to the fifth. There, in the fifth floor, I found Justin Finch Fletchley. He was sitting in a windowsill. He was Harry's age but he looked a bit older, at age 12 most of the roundness of his face was gone.
"Hey, Justin, right?" I said, getting his attention.
"Yeah, you were in Lockhart's duelling club, right?" He asked me and I nodded.
"Yeah, hate his class but my friend Grace wanted to go, so..." I trailed off.
"Are- are you pure-blood?" He asked me and I shook my head.
"No, many in my own house call me a mud-blood. Dad was a wizard, pure-blood. But my mum- she was a muggle" I told him and he nodded.
I didn't explain much more, I didn't like to talk about my parents. Mum died when I was two, killed by Death Eaters. They were searching for Remus, who openly worked against You-Know-Who. My dad died last year, he was sixty-two. He was working for the Ministry, de-hexing houses formerly used by wizards for muggles to use. One of the hexes made the house explode, with my father and his team still inside. So now it was just Remus and me.
"Aren't you afraid of Potter?" He asked me.
"No, of course not. He's a good kid. Besides, he is friends with Hermione Granger, isn't he? And she is muggle-born. I don't think he would ever do something to hurt her" I told him, sitting next to him and putting an arm around his shoulders.
At the touch, I was presented with another vision. It was Hermione, with a mirror in her hand, in the library next to Penelope Clearwater. The vision ended quickly and I didn't know what it meant, Hermione and Penelope had no relation with Justin, only they they were muggle-borns.
"You're probably right, uh-"
"Lŷkaina" I told him my name quickly.
"You're probably right, Lŷkaina, Pot- Harry wouldn't hurt Hermione. I have to apologise to him, for the way I acted earlier. Would you come with me?" He asked and I nodded.
We stood up and walked back from where I came. We walked upstairs to where we thought the Gryffindor Common Room was, we really didn't know where it was and we thought Harry would be there since the Herbology lesson was cancelled, just as the improvised Quidditch practice I had with Flint during my free period before my Special Lesson with Trelawney.
"Do you think it's somewhere around here?" Justin asked me.
"I honestly have no idea. The only time I went there was on my first year with Charlie Weasley in Christmas but he covered my eyes the whole way." I told him, laughing at the memory.
I had been alone in the Slytherin Common Room, everyone had gone home for the holidays, but Remus didn't want me to go home for Christmas, it would be full moon in Christmas Eve and he didn't want me to witness it, even with Wolfsbane. He didn't want to spoil my Christmas with him being zombie-like. Charlie noticed that I was alone during breakfast and told me to go stay in the Gryffindor Common Room for the holidays, we asked Dumbledore and he said it was fine as long as I didn't know the way there or the password. I spent the holidays in the cozy Gryffindor Common Room that year, Mrs. Weasley even made me a jumper, lilac with a white L in the middle.
"I think we are lost" he told me.
"Yeah, I second that. Maybe we can find Sir Nicholas and ask him" I suggested.
"Is it true that you are the only Slytherin girl in your year?" He asked me.
"Yup. We were two, Catelyn and I. We were best friends but towards the end of the year, two stupid Hufflepuff's -no offence Justin- had a problem with us. I ended up being unconscious for three weeks, and with a scar in my right arm... and Catelyn's father transferred her to Beauxbatons. We sadly don't talk anymore- but yeah, I'm the only girl in Slytherin in my year" I told him.
"And what about the boys?" He asked me curiously.
"They should be in sixth or seventh grade. I really don't know, haven't seen them or haven't recognised them" I shrugged.
We walked in comfortable silence for a few more minutes. We were back in the fifth floor. There was no one around, it was quite weird, people were usually in the halls during the blizzards, trying to catch some warmth.
"Look, Lŷkaina! It's Nearly Headless Nick!" Justin exclaimed and dragged me from my sleeve to where the ghost was.
"I prefer Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington" the ghost told us sternly.
"Sorry, Sir Nicholas. But we were wondering if you could tell us where the Gryffindor Common Room is-" I started but Sir Nicholas interrupted me.
"Kids, I'm sorry but it's against the rules-"
"I know, and we are sorry to put you in this position but we need to find Harry Potter-" I said and was yet interrupted.
"I cannot tell you where the Common Room is, however, I think I saw Harry Potter in another floor, if you'd follow me" he said and we nodded.
Sir Nicholas turned around to walk- or float to where he saw Harry, we were going to follow him, Justin's sweaty and shaking hand clenched to my own. That's when we heard Sir Nicholas gasp. Justin and I raised our eyes and we saw them, big yellow eyes looking at us through Sir Nicholas, that was still in front of us. And next to it- no! It can't be, Ginny cannot be the one controlling it. It's crazy to think that young, sweet and shy Ginny would do that-. I felt Justin's body become stiff as rock, his hand clenched to mine with an unholy strong grip. Soon enough, my own body started to paralyse, starting from my legs, rising to my knees and my hips, then my torso and my arms, I only had time to glance again at that thing and open my mouth to shout... when everything turned black as Justin and I fell to the ground.
