It was a long, frustrating day at class after you escaped the encounter with 2-D. Explaining to your professors why you were missing for so long was difficult since so many teachers didn't understand how bad anxiety could be. Also because the whole situation was rather difficult to explain anyways.
Sighing softly you sat down for lunch and pulled your earbuds in and turned on your music. You played your favorite song and let the tune sooth you. It was your way of coping and feeling better, music was really an escape.
You didn't eat much, just some apple slices and peanut butter as you worked a bit on your homework. Your rather copious amount of homework since you missed all your morning classes. The math problems caused you to huff out tiredly as you scratched down the answers. It wasn't hard, just tedious.
You felt the table vibrate slightly for a split second as someone sat down across from you. It didn't cause you to think much of it, there much have just been no more empty seats in the cafeteria, so someone must have come to eat in the music building. Nothing unusual, there have been tons of people coming to your spot before.
The only time you paused to tense up was when you saw a finger slip into your view and tap on the paper in front of you. Glancing up you feel your stomach twist as a familiar toothless grin with shaggy blue hair comes into view. 2-D was sitting directly across from you and he was smiling stupidly as he spoke and pointed to the math you were doing. Once you realized the sound of your music drowned out his voice completely you quickly took your earbuds out.
"Sorry what?..."
"I said you seem pretty good at math!" He cocked his head to one side.
"Oh...oh I mean it's not too hard...just boring and stupid." You mutter out a bit.
2-D lets out a laugh and you felt yourself perk up since someone thought you were funny.
"Eheh that's true, I don fink I'm too good at it m'self."
"Really now?" You glance back at your paper and write as he speaks to you. "Whys that?"
"Ehhh, it's jus kinda hard f'me?? Never really made sense."
"Y'know Dents, you never mentioned what you were doing at a university like this. What's your major?"
"Oh....I'm just here for a bit...I don't actually go here..."
This was friggin weird information so you paused to look up and actually make eye contact.
"Huh?"
"Yeah I'm sort of just....doing some research for business I guess you could say."
You didn't question it and just looked down and continued to write. Whatever that's weird.
"What about you Y/n? What're you majoring in?"
"Literature" You say without missing a beat.
2-d's eyes shoot up and he looks baffled. "Not music??"
You snigger " I'm kidding, I'm going into music business. Probably an editor."
"An editor? But you play so well!"
"Heh, thanks but I can't really say I agree. It's more of a hobby. It's just all that interests me."
"Ahh well. At least you're doing what you enjoy."
Smiling you nod as you finish up your math problems. Talking to 2-D wasn't as stressful as it was talking to others, at least not at this moment. He kept his distance and didn't try and touch you or mover closer. He was just a calm presence and it made it easier for you to relax.
"Y'know ye should play something fer me."
You tensed and looked up at him.
"Huh?"
"On the piano! Just okay this." He pulls out a stack of sheet music and offers it to you.
"Whoa, what the hell you just carry that around?"
"C'mon jus play it??" He looked almost giddy.
"Well....okay..." You slowly take the papers and open the piano, setting your stuff aside.
You take a few minutes to read over the music on the sheets and position your fingers before you start to play. You played rather well, until 2-D started to sing.
'I was gone with the self of the day~'
It startled you to the point that you missed a few notes and made a few awkward mistakes before folding your hands in your lap embarrassed.
2-D smiles and places a hand on your shoulder gently and looks down at you but it only causes your face to burn more and your shoulders tense more.
"I messed up..."
"Ah is okay luv, I'm sorreh fer startling you. Can you try again though? Please?"
You sat still for a moment before you lifted your hands and begun to play again. This time you expected him to sing and you got the notes right when he began to sing. The song was odd, and sounded different from what you usually listened to. At one point you got lost in the sound of 2-D singing and you messed up a few notes but recovered the best you could. When it was over you set your hands on your lap again.
"It's a nice song." You mumble.
"Fanks, I wrote it!"
You look up quickly and stare at him in awe, clenching your hands.
"Really?"
"Ye! You okay very well Y/n" he smiles kindly.
"Well...you write very nice songs Dents." You exchange a smile and glance down.
"I need to get to class..." you say softly.
"Oh alright. Will I see you again?"
"Mmm I come here everyday."
"I'll see you tomorrow then Y/n!"
"Ah...o-okay Dents."
2-D smiles and you feel your face burn and your hair stand up slightly. Those eyes burned into your soul and made you slightly uncomfortable. So dark and mysterious.
It wouldn't be long before you saw them again.
