Maddie reached out to grab the cereal box, placing it in her cart as she walked through the store. She had been running out of food, and decided to take her monthly trip to the grocery store to get food, using money she had earned from her job and money that her mom occasionally gave her. There were very few others in the store; one was a woman with black hair and dark eyes, walking alongside a tall man with hazel eyes. Maddie walked to another aisle, grabbing bread and chips. A song was playing over the radio. The song sounded familiar, yet Maddie couldn't place it. However, she softly hummed it to herself as she walked, occasionally tapping her foot.
Eventually, Maddie paid for her groceries and walked all the way home, carrying her many bags as she went. When she got home, she threw her bags down and stepped in the shower. When she got out, she put on a black tee as her normal green 'I <3 Billy' tee was in the wash. As Maddie sat down, her phone vibrated, and to her surprise, it was Sally who was calling.
"Sally?" Maddie said, clutching her phone. "Maddie-Friend! Hey! Mama said we're going to da park, an' I wanted to invite you!" Sally said happily. "Oh, is Gertrude fine with me coming along?" Maddie asked. "Yup! She said she's fine with you coming, and that she'd love to see you!"
"Hm. Well, is Billy coming?" "Biwwy's wif Papa, and Papa's at his store, but Sue's coming!" "Sue! Alright, I'll come. When are you guys going?" "In ten minutes, Mama said." Sally replied, "And she says we'll get you." "Alright, I can't wait to see you!" Maddie said, before clicking the end button on the call. She ran and grabbed her normal green 'I <3 Billy' tee, brushed her hair, and then waited for Sally, Gertrude, and Sue to arrive.

"Mama mama!" Sally cried, jumping up and down excitedly. "Mama, can Maddie-Friend sleep over?"
Gertrude turned her head, looking at Sally, who was tugging at her shirt.
Maddie locked eyes with Gertrude, who had an eyebrow raised. "Maddie, will you be okay at our house?" Gertrude asked. Her voice sounded cynical and disapproving, and Maddie knew she was hinting at Maddie's obsession with Billy. Maddie darted her eyes away, slightly nervous of her older sister. "Yes, I'll be fine. "Alright then, Maddie can sleep over."
"Yaaay!" Sally and Sue cried in unison, Sally jumping up and down to try and reach Sue's hand to grab. Gertrude drove them home, where the lights were on, indicating Papa and Billy were home. It was around 4 pm, and Maddie knew she had work tomorrow.
As they pulled up, Sally jumped out of the car and ran into the house, the door opening wide to greet her. Sue quickly followed, running after Sally while simultaneously trying to catch her breath. Maddie sprinted after both of them, desperate to not have to face Gertrude.
Once inside, Maddie thundered up the stairs, following Sally and Sue into Sally's room, where Sally had turned the TV onto the cartoon channel.
"Hey Maddie-Friend, can you grab me a waffle from my closet?" Sally asked, looking up at Maddie with wide eyes. "Yeah, of course." Maddie replied, walking over to Sally's closet. Inside was at least ten tall stacks of waffles, each of them taller than Sally, and a few taller than Maddie. Maddie grabbed a waffle from one of the stacks shorter than her, careful not to sent the entire stack toppling to the ground. Then, Sue came up behind her and easily grabbed a waffle from a stack, handing it to Maddie. "Thanks Sue." "You're welcome Maddie-Friend. Now, who wants to braid hair?!"

Maddie turned her head. It was around 10 at night, and the lights were still on downstairs. Sally and Sue were fast asleep. Maddie went downstairs to see Gertrude failing to fix up some food. Papa and Billy were on the couch; Billy was fast asleep, and Papa was still watching the TV.
"Oh hey Maddie." Papa said gruffly, standing up. He grabbed the remote and turned the TV off, leaving Billy asleep on the couch as he thundered up the stairs to the bathroom. Maddie walked over and looked at the TV, then let her eyes rest on Billy, who was softly snoring. As his chest rose up, Maddie, after making sure no one was looking, pressed her lips against his cheek. "Night Billy." Maddie whispered, walking back upstairs with a smile on her face.
