Maddie ran a brush through her dark red hair, humming to herself as she got ready for work. She, unlike most others in the town, went to work quite often. She saw the hospital as an outlet, to let herself focus on herself and not Billy or anyone else. Humming softly, she grabbed her plain green long sleeve that she saved for work, and pulled it on. After she grabbed her normal 'I <3 Billy' shirt from the dryer, she put her medic armbands on both arms to proudly display that she was a medic. She grabbed a green hairband and tied her hair up neatly in a ponytail, letting it swish and bounce as she put her hands back down. Putting some lip-gloss on, she smiled at herself in the mirror before standing up and gathering her belongings, heading off to work. It was 6 in the morning, and Maddie calmly walked down the street, glancing up at the dark morning sky. The sky was not up yet, and Maddie secretly enjoyed the darkness. She put one foot in front of the other, occasionally twirling in a circle as she walked. She didn't know why she was so happy to head to work; maybe it was the fact that work gave her a mental break from her thoughts and worries. She even skipped a little as she kept walking, the sky slowly lightening. Finally, at 7:14 am, Maddie arrived at the hospital after a long walk. She immediately went to her station and began working away, something she did everyday in case Billy never came. She went from patient to patient, seeing stab wounds, burns, and bullet wounds. She treated each patient she came across best she could, jotting down notes as her hair bounced behind her. At around 9 that morning, Billy arrived. Maddie cheerfully said hello, handing him the patient notes for the patient she had been examining. Billy nodded at her and took the notes, studying them. Maddie was one of the few people in the town who could read, and Billy was one of those few people as well. Maddie sometimes suspected Billy was smarter than he portrayed himself to be, but she never said anything. She understood everyone had silent secrets they could/would never tell anyone. She and Billy walked from patient to patient, assessing the severity of their cases and prescribing them whatever medicine/treatment they needed. Maddie watched how naturally Billy moved from patient to patient. He seemed so at home in the hospital, as he walked from patient to patient, talking calmly and kindly to each one. He was a completely different person at work than outside of work, and the transformation never ceased to amaze Maddie. Then again, she too was a completely different person outside of work. Laughing silently to herself, she jotted down notes about a patient she was assessing: an amputee who had lost her leg in a fire. Maddie smiled kindly at the woman and gave her a bottle of pills, telling her when to take the pills and how often. The woman thanked her, and Maddie shook her hand before walking away. Maddie walked to another room of patients, a room in which Molly was in. Molly was an Asian girl they had hired to work alongside she and Billy. Molly lifted her head, smiled and waved at Maddie, then returned to the paperwork she was filling out. Maddie walked over and started sorting her notes in patient files, and then into folders. As she did so, Molly finished her organizing and took off to another room. Maddie calmly and quickly organizing her notes, her arms moving in such a way as though she was a robot performing a task given to her. In minutes, Maddie was done organizing, and she stuffed the folders away in a cabinet before returning to assess more patients. On her way, she passed by Molly talking to Billy. Billy laughed at something Molly said, and she gave him a dumbfounded look before bursting into laughter. Confused and upset, Maddie dashed to another room, holding back tears. As she closed the door, she wiped a tear from her cheek as she surveyed the sleeping patients in the room. Wondering whether Billy liked Molly or not, Maddie slid to the floor and began to sob.

Hey there guys! Sorry for the long wait! Although, I did say the story would probably have slow updates...

Anyways, please enjoy this chapter! Btw, Billy has no interest in Molly whatsoever and she doesn't have any interest in him either. They simply talk and laugh a lot at work and tell each other stories every other shift. Maddie's just kinda assuming, but since my version of her has Dependent personality disorder, she's much quicker to assume those she depends on are leaving her. Also, the rejections fuel her insecurity/fear that Billy will eventually find someone else and leave her all alone, so  o<o
