THE SCHOOL day couldn't have ended quicker. Laura - having two supernatural-killing brothers and having to move abruptly - had barely experienced high school, let alone gone to a dance.
She was excited, and Elena and Co hyped it up so much that she wished she didn't have to wait several hours for it to start.
The theme was Midnight In Paris, which she wasn't terribly happy about. She'd been to Paris once and it wasn't nice – especially at midnight. But regardless, she was still going to go; for herself, and because she had a plan.
Elena swore up and down that she had something that would fit Laura and go along with the theme, so after school, she found herself at the Gilbert house trying on dresses.
Though, they quickly figured out that Laura was quite picky when it came to what she wore. After all, they'd gone through about four dresses, all that she turned out.
"That one's nice." Elena complimented as the huntress came out of the bathroom wearing a warm neon pink dress that came to her knees.
Laura wrinkled her nose. She didn't necessary like dresses – much too hard to fight in, also, who needs to dress this fancy to a high school dance? – so she went back in to try on the last one in the batch.
It was turquoise, and not to short thank God. It also left room for movement but still added the flair she thought needed to be there.
"What about this one?" The Winchester girl asked, walking out once again.
Elena shrugged. "That one's alright. I think you should have went with one of the other ones."
Laura rolled her eyes. She liked it, so what if no one else did. "This one's the one." She told Elena.
"If you say so."

HALF AN hour later, once Elena had dressed and Laura had finally decided to wear her normal combat boots as shoes, a knock came to the door.
"I'll get it." The huntress offered since Elena was finishing her makeup.
Laura knew who it was – Elena told her Stefan would be by to pick her up.
But what she didn't know was that Damon would be standing right beside him.
To her credit though, Damon seemed to be just as surprised.
"Laura, didn't expect to see you here." He said with a smirk, "We're here for a straight-haired brunette by the name of Elena...Have you seen her?"
She glanced at Stefan. "She's doing her makeup in her room." As they walked in, she stood in front of Damon. He raised an eyebrow.
"Actually I was wondering if you wanted to take me to the dance." She feigned nervousness and looked up at him.
He was taken aback by the question. But he then remembered the impending crush she had on him – according to Elena at least – and he smiled. "I'd be delighted." He told her, if not a little reluctantly. The plan was to intrude on Stefan and Elena's time at the dance, but a little change of pace never hurt anybody.

PILED INTO Damon's blue Camaro, the four of them drove to the dance.
Once there, Bonnie and Caroline grilled Elena as to why she hadn't wanted to ride with them, Stefan stood off awkwardly to the side waiting for the exchange to be over; which left Damon and Laura.
Damon glanced around at the festivities. "Nice dance don't ya think?" He asked Laura, who was too busy thinking of a way to not be too close to him without looking suspicious – she had asked him to come with her after all.
"I've never been to one so I approve." She smiled, eyeing the punch until she saw someone somewhat covertly pouring something into the bowl. Suddenly she wasn't too sad to have never gone to dance.
"I'm gonna go dance. You coming?" He told her, gesturing towards the dance floor with his head.
"Why not?" She shrugged, following him. What was the worst that could happen? He wasn't so heartless as to start butchering unassuming high school students in front of his date right?
She could have slapped herself upside the head.
Those were the exact thoughts of someone starting to ignore someone's wrongs. And not just any someone – a supernatural serial killer someone.
Her next thought was cut short when a multiple-person gasp sounded from the crowd near the punch bowl. Her hunter instinct put her on alert and she immediately turned towards it.
There were a lot of people in the way, but from the looks of it someone was being threatened.
After she moved a little closer she saw who it was.
Jeremy Gilbert – Elena's brother.
She'd never seen the man threatening him but she didn't hesitate once he had his arm around his neck and threatened that Elena show herself.
But Damon stopped her before she'd even started moving.
"Stay here, I'll take care of this." He said with a scowl on his face. She didn't recall ever hearing him so serious.
He stalked to the man and Jeremy. "That's no way to treat guests at a dance. Who are you, the bouncer?" He asked him, earning a few laughs from the crowd.
In a blur barely noticeable by the human eye he grabbed Jeremy and pushed him into a group of people, grabbed the guy by his neck instead.
"Interesting turn of events don't you think?" He asked with a malicious smirk.
But what he'd just done wasn't malicious.
He'd saved Jeremy. A human.
She couldn't' wrap her mind around why he'd do such a thing, seeing as he'd had such little regard for human life in the past, but she didn't want to question it.
After all, if she did that, she'd have to acknowledge the fact that he might not be as bad as everyone had been led to believe.
