SOUNDTRACK: "Little Girl, Big World" - Magic!
The new trailer for Suicide Squad just came out.
Kate looked at her phone as discreetly as she could to keep Professor Rucker from seeing. Olivia had texted her from the library (a bold move since Ms. Chintz would have tried to get her suspended if she caught her). Kate sighed and suppressed a groan. It had started.
Jared told her to expect a lot of press about the film. People had been talking about it since it was announced and theorizing about him and his version of the Joker for about the same amount of time, too. It was barely April and people were acting like the film was releasing tomorrow.
Is it good? Kate texted back.
A few minutes passed and Kate tried to focus on Chemistry. The AP exams were in several weeks and things were getting a little frantic. Her phone lit up and she picked it up.
Your dad looks scary as hell. But like in a good way. I'll send a screenshot.
The phone lit up again and an image filled her screen.
She nearly dropped her phone in surprise. By the time she had come into Jared's life, he had mostly shed the Joker from his persona. He dyed his hair pink (though he said it was pomegranate) and the only indication of the Joker were his sparse eyebrows that were just beginning to reappear. But seeing him in full-on Joker mode was almost as scary as having a front row seat to the time he had chewed an intern out within an inch of her life for posting a picture of Vedder on Kate's bed on her Snap Chat. And this was just a picture.
His hair was dyed electric green and his skin was painted white and covered in tattoos that weren't there normally. He had a wild look in his eyes and the absence of eyebrows made his head look more skull-like. Jared's perfect teeth had been covered in a metal grill and he was scowling down at someone underneath him. He had been careful about keeping anything related to the movie a secret or out of her view. He didn't even discuss it with her.
Kate was aware of all the hype surrounding the role since the last person to play it didn't have a happy ending. One glance at Jared's version told her that Heath Ledger was nowhere to be found. Of course she knew that some people would love it and some would hate it. She quickly excused herself from class, tucking her phone into her pocket before leaving the room. She hurried down the hall to the women's bathroom and locked herself in a stall, pulling her phone out and doing a quick search for the trailer.
Her mind was blown and she had to sit for several minutes to compose herself. She had never seen Jared in anything, so her mind was playing a game of 'Keep Up' and it was all she could do to keep her head above water. He didn't keep copies of his work at the Compound and definitely didn't talk to her about anything he had ever been in. It was just sort of accepted that he was a good actor. But now she knew why.
