*Present Time*

I ran out of the cafeteria so quickly that anyone passing by would have mistaken me for Speedy Gonzales.

What happened? What did I do?

As I run and try to find a glimpse of dirty blonde hair, I can't help but think of all these questions. Why in the world would Ronnie look so upset yet mad at the same time, did I do something?

"Ronnie!" I exclaim, as I see my dear future husband sitting on the staircase clearly in distress.

He takes a quick glimpse up at me, to later continue to look down at the floor with his shoulders slumped. He looks so down, that I don't even know how to approach him. I'm so horrible when it comes to comforting people, especially if it's this amazingly human being right in front of me that I have never seen this upset.

So I dropped my book bag on the ground and sat right next to him and awkwardly pat his back. "Hey Ronnie. What's wrong?"

He doesn't answer my question, and instead starts picking at his shoe laces. I stay quiet, and instead of nagging him with another question I lay my head down on the palms of my hand and look straight ahead. We stay in this position for what feels like a lifetime. Never have I seen Ronnie in this melancholy state before. Throughout our whole friendship he has always been the happy one and the one to always do the comforting. Now that I've been thrust into switching roles, I have no idea what to do or say. So I wait.

"So Miguel is the guy you were talking about." he finally fills the silence. Ronnie looks up at me with an expression I couldn't quite read. Maybe because there were no emotions in his countenance at all, he just stared at me blankly.

Miguel? Why in the world would that virus be the cause of his somber mood.

"What are you talking about?" I stare back at him with the most dumbfounded expression I've ever had to express in my life. There are very few things that would take me aback but this tops all of them.

"You know what I'm talking about." He mumbles, then looks away and ahead of him as if in a trance.

I can't believe how he's acting right now, this is so out of character. He could just tell me what's happening, without being so extra. So I get up from my spot and stand to move right in front of him. I cross my arms across my chest and stare him down until he has no choice but to look at me. "No. I actually don't know what you're talking about, Ronnie." I have minimal patience and so he needs to spill out his problem before I squeeze it out of him.

He looks at me and narrows his eyes as if to inspect if i'm being serious. "When we walked yesterday, you asked me for advice on a guy."

My eyebrows rose so high it almost reached my hairline. Ronnie could not be suggesting what I think he's suggesting.

He thinks the guy I spoke to him about yesterday...

The guy that I made up but it's truly him....

Ronnie thinks it's Miguel!

In what dimension? Certainly not this one!

I laugh. It first starts off as a giggle then progressively turns into a soundless laugh while I crumple to the ground.

Oh Ronnie my love, how wrong you are. Oh, how terribly wrong you are.

"I don't understand what is so funny, Melissa."

I catch my breath and wipe the tears off my face. "Im sorry, sorry I just can't believe you think I have feelings for..." I close my mouth to hold the eruption of laughter that was about to be released and take a deep breath. "..Miguel!" I let out.

Now, Ronnie is the one looking dumbfounded. Wow, out of all people in our senior class he guesses that virus

"I..well..I just assumed since you two were sitting at lunch together that..." Ronnie looks like he's lost for words, and who could blame him? My poor beloved must have been worried I was veering off my love for him. "Just never mind."

He got up and we started making our way to our next class. Wow, and to think something serious happened to him. There is only one reason as to why Ronnie would act all worked up at seeing me with Miguel.

He's jealous.

Oh my goodness! At that realization my stomach releases all the wonderful butterflies that slowly make my little heart soar. I take a peek at Ronnie and can't help the goofy smile that stretches across my face. Can't believe that the pestering virus that is Miguel, actually became of use! I will have to thank him next time I see him.

Just for safe measures I say, "Trust me Ronnie, that the anonymous guy I told you about is not Miguel, but a very special person that means so much to me." I include a warm smile because it's the absolute truth. If only he knew that it's him. He's the special person, that I at first I didn't want in my life, but am grateful that he is.

"Good! So when will you tell me who this special guy is?" he teases with one of his dazzling smiles.

"Hmm, maybe once I have the balls to?" I shrug acting indifferent. Oh how I don't have the balls at the moment to confess, and how badly I really do need those balls. Oh someone save me. I can't keep stalling!

Ronnie just shakes his head with a short laugh and goes his way.
